New Reward!

Hey guys. We've heard your feedback, and we've decided that, to thank all of you for supporting us, all patrons who pledge $1 or more per month will get to see all future episodes 2 weeks before they're publicly posted on YouTube!

We'll probably be adding more rewards in the near future once we can nail down the details, but for now, thanks again for going above and beyond to support us! You guys are the best!

I don't see the issue. You get to see the episodes anyway. It's still a free service. You're not forced to pay to see the episodes. Only for an optional dollar a month which you can cancel, you get to see the episode a bit earlier. What a scam!

Boemchak

Yeah, subtitles would be cool, that way i'd understand some jokes better xD

Orestes Mesquita Kunze Bastos

Honestly I've gotta agree with Jacob on the timewall thing, I'm donating what I can cause I like you guys, but I'm sure those who can't will be bummed. Which sucks!

Allen Cousland

What about english subtitles? I do not take a quarter of what has been said, especially by female characters. I`m ok with watchin 5 or more times, but still I would like to understand from the first.

musehunter

I'm adjusting my donation to account for the loss of jacob below. Good riddens

kyle meyer

Of course you can :) You should be able to find all the scripts on the Creator Posts page. I would be be careful though. The scripts usually have some lines that were changed or cut entirely, so they're not 100% the same the finished videos.

Something Witty Entertainment

Didn't realize you guys had set up a Patreon page! I'm a little late to the party, but glad I can support something so genuinely hilarious!

EvilChicken25

Ok, after real battle with my bank and debet card, paying my debts on account, singning on PayPal, i finally become a patron... I do it just for You guys, so can i do Polish subtittles for You now? If yes, ill give 10$ for access to scripts ;)

Jesus H. Christ I feel like I'm beating my head against a cement wall with you people. I jumped on donating to SWE the first day I saw your advertisement, without any incentive other than helping the artists behind an awesome series. Which is the point behind Patreon. Leveraging donations from people with an abridged series -which I repeat is made up of over 50% copyrighted material- isn't just unfair it's legally shady. If no one's entitled to free content then I suggest you start writing a monthly check to Reki Kawahara, seeing as you're using his creation to make money. Trust me, I get where you're coming from, but you're coming from a bad place. I'm not comfortable participating to this elitist BS and quite frankly I'm not comfortable donating to a group that conducts themselves as you do. I'll join the plebeians, you can consider my pledge cancelled.

Great to hear! That actually made me inexplicably happy to hear. I really hope that this page can reach at least $4000. Even though Hayabusa DOES like his job...

Anthony Chafatelli

As a matter of fact, it does! The way things are going, I'm (YamatoSFX) now able to make writing and editing the show my job! For now, Hayabusa449 is still going to be splitting his time between writing the show and his day job, but he actually likes his job, so it's kinda win-win.

Something Witty Entertainment

$1600 a month! "Hey, a dollar a month at least and we can post them two weeks sooner! $2000 a month a couple days later! Damn, that was a nice call. Obviously four hundred people didn't sign up, but that is a nice perk. And as I've pointed out to people on Youtube, it would only be crossing a line if it were pay or don't see episodes at all. It isn't pay per view. It's "Hey, thanks for helping us SURVIVE, have the episode a little early!" So, we've reached our half way point! Does this mean one of you can quit your day jobs and work full time on this since there's mainly two of you and four thousand means both of you could quit? And if so, who if you don't mind me asking?

Anthony Chafatelli

Jacob, I feel like we need to be clear here. The fans who don't sign up are still getting the episodes for free. There is no "paywall", because that implies the only choices are "pay us" or "NEVER see the episodes". We would never force people to pay to see our episodes at all, but obviously the people who support us financially (thus helping us pay our bills and ensuring we're able to keep MAKING the show at all) deserve to see the episodes sooner than those who don't. If a fan can't afford it, or is too young to sign up, that's totally fine. That's why they're still getting the episodes completely free. Saying that the 2 week delay is "really unfair to non-patrons" is ludicrous. No one is entitled to free content, and two weeks is not a long time to wait. We totally get where you're coming from: we probably wouldn't have gotten this far without the emotional support of all of our fans. But unfortunately, we live in a world that demands money to survive. So if the choice is between "charge our fans to see episodes slightly earlier so we do this full-time" or "continue working a terrible call centre job full-time, making it so we can only work on the show in our free time, and thus delaying the episodes by months for ALL OF OUR FANS", it's not a hard call.

Something Witty Entertainment

Yes, and they rose to nearly $13000 a month without limiting their core project. Patreon is a voluntary medium for fans to support their favorite artists. When it comes to abridging, this falls into a bit of a legal grey-area, otherwise it may it interpreted as the creators using copyrighted material as leverage to make money, which is against copyright laws. Patreon is a beautiful loophole that allows abridgers, who work very hard on their work, to be compensated. But that only works without issue when the content they provide on their channel mirrors the content on their Patreon. Bloopers and extras are fine as rewards, but full-episodes are a bit too much. If a precedence of hiding episodes behind time-walls is set, the days where we can support these artists are extremely numbered. Plus, as I said before, it's really unfair to non-patrons. A lot of the fanbase of SAO:A may be too young to have a way to pay for this, or simply not have the funds to do so. It shouldn't limit their ability to enjoy content or participate in the community. Do I expect a little extra content for my little extra support? Sure. Do I expect those who can't afford to give to lose content? No.

Well, the scripts are already posted as soon as the videos come out, so unfortunately, we can't post them any earlier. All the scripts for episodes that have been released have already been posted, though. Just check the Creator Posts page and look near the bottom. They were posted before the Patreon page went live, so they may have gotten a bit buried. As for the $25 patrons, we're still working out what we can offer, but we definitely want to make sure you guys are getting a fair deal. Thanks again for your support.

Something Witty Entertainment

Have you looked at their Patreon account? It is one hundred percent profit, they make 13000 a month which does not go to making faster videos or anything, simply pocket money. They make their profit through this website, just as they are trying to do so here. They aren't accepting money from Youtube. This is all out of donation, which again is why it is a perk.

Isaac Tiguila

Yes, TFS releases their episodes a few days early on their website, but it's not the same thing. The TFS website isn't a members only thing, anyone can access it just as easily as youtube. That's not so much to reward fans as to boost attendance to their own site, which is perfectly okay. The point remains that abridging HAS to be non-profit medium. If it's not, not only is it not fair, but you may step over into a whole new mess of copyright issues.

all places do that. Look at team four star they release the content early on their website so that they can get support to their own content. That's why it is a perk

Isaac Tiguila

I just became a patron. I love your works and hopefully others will follow suit.

Khanh Bui

*I posted this on youtube, but I'm gonna post it here so you'll hopefully see it.* While I am a patron to you guys, I have to say it's not really fair to the non-patrons to time-lock your core project. The extras are a nice perk to being a patron, and it makes sense because we pay a little to support you guys. That being said, your channel wouldn't have the support that it has if not for the WHOLE fanbase; and not everyone can afford even a dollar a month. Abridged series are not, and should never be, a pay-to-see experience, hence the NON-PROFIT disclaimer at the beginning of your videos. I still love you guys' work, just keep that in mind.

Given the major reward for $1 now, could those who back at $10.00 get given the scripts a bit earlier, and those who back at $25.00 get something a bit more? The rewards just don't quite seem proportional now. I don't mind much, but I thought it was worth asking. Thanks! Edit: Don't mean to complain! Honestly I'm not here for the rewards, just want more SAO abridged in the world. I thought that some incentive to back above $1 might be good though. CGP Grey has a $7 "grammar check" tier that's pretty popular, where you get to see some screens from upcoming vids, and to send in any errors to him. Possibly you could do something similar; even if it's not grammar, viewers like to get involved and be helpful! Thanks for the reply btw.

I'm just happy to get such awesome and humorous content from you guys. The writing, voice acting, and video editing are all easily competing with the best of all the abridged series I've ever seen. This includes the obvious like TFS DBZ and Hellsing abridged, as well as the Friendship is Witchcraft series, Code MENT and None Piece, Naruto Abridged (and the abridged version of the abridged series), Yugioh Abridged, and the the Attack on Titan abridged series by Abridg'd Comedy. I can only hope that with my meager contributions added to everyone else's, you guys can continue this work, and it's definitely hard work on your side of the screen, for just a little longer than you otherwise would.
