Homicide feat. Logan Kenny

Film writer and podcast mercenary Logan Kenny joins to discuss David Mamet's 'Homicide', a film that begins as a straightforward police procedural and patiently shape-shifts into a devastating rumination on the self and the ways our appointed identities can be weaponized to destructive ends.

We discuss how 'Homicide' represents a bold step forward for Mamet as director. Utilizing the great cinematographer Roger Deakins, Mamet crafts an elegant and vitally cinematic story. Then, we dissect the film's labyrinthine architecture that employs some of Mamet's usual con-game tropes in service of a film much more concerned with unraveling the psyche than rugpulling the audience. Finally, we talk about Mamet's unfortunate rightward slide into the role of conservative crank and culture war polemicist, and express concern over his recently announced JFK assissination thriller, starring Al Pacino, Viggo Mortensen, John Travolta, and Courtney Love.
