Build-Along Series, Part 6

Friends:

Now that we've ripped out our apron stock, it's time to plane it up. That's four pieces and it could take a long time, but we're going to be as efficient as possible by doing the minimum work. In this video, I focus on the most difficult piece of apron stock to show you all the problems you might have. The other 3 pieces were much quicker.

Stop by the forum thread to see the rest of the builds and chat with everyone who is following along.

Hope you're having fun. I am!

Build-Along Series, Part 6

Comments

I've never been impressed by people who claim to be "perfectionists". Anyone can drive themselves crazy obsessing over tiny details. Getting projects done is far more important.

Rex Krueger

I'm so glad you think so! Getting that balance right is very tricky.

Rex Krueger

It's great to know that people are building along! That's what I was hoping for.

Rex Krueger

I'm glad you think so! That's what we are trying for!

Rex Krueger

Well, I use it every day, and nothing has fallen off of it. In fact, it got a lot better when I realized that one of the legs was sitting on the base of a lamp. Then it got a lot more level! 😁

Kenneth Carlile

Mistakes like this are going to happen....over and over.

Rex Krueger

The nice thing about table-tops is that they don't need to be perfectly flat. If they look flat, that's good enough.

Rex Krueger

It saves time. I think that's the biggest thing.

Rex Krueger

It is certainly a mindset to not prepare all surfaces even if some don't show.

Bradley Barth

I usually can't help myself but S4S... The one thing I built while consciously not to, ironically, was an end table based on your design! And I took it to a bit of an extreme. The top has both a big dip in it and a pronounced twist. 🫠

Kenneth Carlile

Same

Good job on catching yourself on missing the reference face! I'm glad you said something about it 'cause I was going to call you on it. ;-)

Rick Goodwell

Great series. Nice to have a longish project broken up like this and still keeping it detailed.

Dave West

I’m building along and really enjoying the relaxing pace. Thanks Team Rex.

Joe Gregoria

Perfect balance of time and finish quality of the piece. Thank you, Rex. Have a good day.

Matt Evans-Koch

Not only good tool use technique but also good emphasis on time use. Perfectionists can have shops full of half finished projects that were abandoned because they didn’t make any progress.
