Build-Along Series Part 4

Friends:

Welcome to the Shaker Table Build-Along, Part 4. Today, we'll prepare the boards for the top and glue them up. It's a simple operation, but there are always a few tips to help out new builders.

If you're following along with this series, don't forget to drop by the Build-Along Thread on the forum. Lot's of good stuff there.

See you next Wednesday!

Build-Along Series Part 4

Comments

Just what I asked. Miss your comment!

Bradley Barth

Why didn't you do both boards together (bookends?) when planning the jointed edges?

Bradley Barth

For just a second, I thought we were actually going to see you use a jointer plane, but no! I've been fooled again! 😄

Kenneth Carlile

Always enjoy the builds even if I don’t build it myself. The skills transfer to other projects I do envision building this after finishing a major house project.

Chris St. Cyr

Why spend so much time trying to get both boards square when you can plane both edges at the same time and the resulting edges will be complimentary and equal 90 degrees, one can be 88 and the other 92 and they will join flat. Hard to describe verbally, but works perfectly at the bench

David Niebergall

Thanks, Rex. Keep cool. The AC was not a problem at all, imo.

John Shufelt

Great as always! I am one of the few who like that dark heartwood but agree the matchup on those poplar pieces weren’t a good match!

Gerald Eddy

Thanks Rex. Good idea to leave the top unfinished until most of the build is complete. Love the grain in that poplar.

Matt Evans-Koch

Thanks Rex, Good stuff. Keep them coming.

Dave West

Really enjoying the series, thanks Rex.

Pete Gelpi

Thanks Rex
