Exclusive Video: Big Things Coming!

Friends:

I have a bunch of exciting updates and fun surprises coming before the end of the year and I've made a video to give you an exclusive first look at some of the things that are on the way.

December is going to be a big month around here.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Exclusive Video: Big Things Coming!

Comments

I'm new here and new to woodworking (haven't built anything since high school 1989). I've been thinking of trying out the English Joiners bench, but now that this has been revealed I might have to wait or have two benches. I don't have a lot of space in my garage and it sounds like this might be the type of thing I can use.

Terry Rice

I'm actually getting ready to go buy lumber for the joiners bench. I do like the look of this one better though... I would omit the tool well & go 5-6' though for my space constraints.

Preston Shick

Yeah, the chronic overworker thing is not working out that great for me.

Rex Krueger

Thank YOU for being here and sharing your experience!

Rex Krueger

Great update! Can't wait to see the bench. Maybe I'll end up doing that instead of the joiner's bench, which is still a pile of lumber in my garage. Hope you had a wonderful Thanksgiving with your family—glad you took the time for that. As a chronic overworker, I don't recommend that as a lifestyle 🙃

Pedro Sarsama

Love your enthusiasm! Balance (of professional and personal life aspects) is important to maintain that enthusiasm. I am 65 years old...taught Biology and other sciences for 33 years, coached soccer (all levels) for 24 years. I retired from coaching 18 years ago, and teaching 8 years ago. I was constantly aware of "rust out"...the slow version of career "burn out". Three years ago I took a one week woodworking class in which i made a Shaker hall table...I'm hooked and now woodworking is my new obsession...but I am taking my time learning, (videos and books), practicing with disassembled cabinet panels and wood I repurposed from kitchens and 100 year-old homes which I help a friend to renovate...and dumpster diving!! I truly am learning from you and several other "favorite" YouTubers. Thanks for your time and tremendous effort to keep our learning interesting.

scott szoke

Sure do - Nine grandkids and so far four great-grandkids, two of whom are in school already. Then three more that we've "adopted" because they don't have anyone else. My quiver is full!

Howard Tuckey

I'm really glad you think so!

Rex Krueger

Well, this one is portable, so it's for people who need to move the bench. Not everyone will need one of these!

Rex Krueger

You have GREAT grandchildren? That's very impressive. Good for you!

Rex Krueger

But I'm loving getting back into my shop - great-granddaughter came out the other day while I was working on something. Two of them, actually, and when it looked as if I needed to take a break to do something else, my oldest great-granddaughter held up a bracelet and asked the question that all great-granddads live for - "Grampa, can you please fix this?" Still brings a tear to my eye!

Howard Tuckey

I waited and waited for just the right bech, and was sooo proud of myself when I finished my Kreuger-inspired English Joiners bench, and ow you keep pumping them out, with each one looking better than the last! I'm gonna have so many benches that I won't have room for projects! :-) But these do look good, lessee - I do have four sons-in-law and five grandsons, Or is it seven? Counting great-grandsons -- Having fun at 80!

Howard Tuckey

well that's exciting! Happy Holidays Rex!

James Smith

Looks good. Holding off on the English Joiners bench then...

Sumihisa Aota

That's amazing, I'm looking forward to seeing the bench build video

Jim

That bench looks legit! Good job, Rex & team!

A1BASE

Just for reference, my platform is 8" high...6'2" - 5'6" = 8". I'm not complaining, I didn't know any better when I built it and it is a pretty good height for dovetails! In addition the joiner's bench is about 3" lower then the bench I inherited from my father (due to be an assembly table once I am able to move my shop to a larger space--all of my kids rebounded and the last one to leave is in my shop-to-be).

William Fishburne

I have some insane plans for a Moravian that I designed before I really knew what my skillset was. This is probably a better next step from a Traveler's and a builtin. Also cheaper on the material, I'm betting.

Kenneth Carlile

They're almost done!

Rex Krueger

Thank you for saying so!

Rex Krueger

We're going to get those up as soon as possible.

Rex Krueger

We tried very hard to innovate!

Rex Krueger

I imagine you could do that. The top for this bench is basically the slab from that bench.

Rex Krueger

I've given some thought to moving to a more professional space, but I don't think I will right now.

Rex Krueger

I'm trying to rest, but this content game doesn't sleep!

Rex Krueger

We built this one on a pair of 5-gallon buckets. I kid you not.

Rex Krueger

Thanks for saying so! (I'm a little burned out.)

Rex Krueger

Oh, it will be non-interactive, but totally rewindable. It should be pay once and get lifetime access.

Rex Krueger

I'm not worthy of such praise!

Rex Krueger

This is actually the OTHER Nate, who is my designer. Yup, two Nates.

Rex Krueger

Just another week or two, promise!

Rex Krueger

And to you!

Rex Krueger

I will try to do that.

Rex Krueger

I'm pretty curious what I'm doing next. I've been doing this for so long that I haven't thought about the future.

Rex Krueger

I bet you could take an inch off the legs without much trouble.

Rex Krueger

The plans will be free to Patrons (we're going to charge around $15 for them).

Rex Krueger

There's a guy up by me, but he just moved and his shop is still not set up. Also, you totally CAN sharpen that rip saw. Yes, you can.

Rex Krueger

Yup! Spoon-maker's draw-knife. Tools for Working Wood.

Rex Krueger

Being able to clamp to it was a major part of the design. I'm used to those English benches, but most people need a surface to clamp to.

Rex Krueger

And to you!

Rex Krueger

I think that's just Patreon being odd.

Rex Krueger

Awesome. Oh, and we're working on the caption thing.

Rex Krueger

I'm excited. I'm glad you are, too.

Rex Krueger

It's another Traveler....just not lightweight.

Rex Krueger

I'm glad you think you. I'm nervous to debut such a long-running project!

Rex Krueger

I'm glad!

Rex Krueger

I really suggest it if you NEED the knockdown feature. Every bench is a compromise and this one is optimized for portability.

Rex Krueger

And to you!

Rex Krueger

Thank you!

Rex Krueger

As it happens, I'm right in the middle of building my bench. I love the idea of having break down bench. Can't wait to see what you have in the Plans.

Ron

Oh my gosh, I'm so excited about the bench!

Kenneth Carlile

Looking forward to seeing the bench building videos. Also, just a peek I got at the t-shirt looks really cool. Hope they are out in time for the holidays :) Get some rest!

Amy Holderness

So exciting and innovative!!!

Joff

This is awesome! I had a similar idea where I take the legs off my LRW and use it for the top on a full bench with a tool well. I can't wait to see the video

Michael Bennett

Krueger and Associates continues to expand and improve but still retains that homy feel. Don’t give up your basement.

Richard C von Brecht

Short story. You need to ensure you take sufficient time off to rest and recharge. It is more important that you keep yourself in good shape.

Michael Coolidge

That is a terrific looking bench. Looking forward to seeing Nate put it all together. I may have to build this one to add to the one I am currently working on. I mean you need a good workbench to build a better workbench, right?! I hope everyone has a great holiday season over the next six weeks. And thank you Rex for letting us know what is coming down the pike. Best wishes to you and the family and crew.

Matt Evans-Koch

That's huge, or just the right size;) Suits either condition!

John Griswold

Well, I forgot to mention that this tray is FLIPPABLE and allows you to just extend the bench-top to a full 24 inches!

Rex Krueger

Happy Turkey day to you and everyone who is on Patreon, as much content you make Rex, its good to see you taking some time off. I am eager to see this bench design. I know it will not fit in my own shop but since it is portable, i have a few ways to make it work

Solia

Thanks for the update. I have a question about the form of the course. Is it going to be live and interactive (or semi-interactive)? Or will it be a video that folks can rewind and watch sections over a few times or pause while they go do something in the shop and then come back to view the next step? Both formats have their uses but I would think that one hour would be pretty quick to cover building an entire bench live. Also some folks in the forums have signed up for various online courses and one thing that pops up on every thread is liking the ability to rewind and watch parts a few times. Just my random unsolicited $0.01 worth

Stuart

You, sir, are the bomb.

Charles Deaton

Really excited to see this bench build being done by Nate. I really enjoyed the other videos you did with Nate, so this should be great!

Colby Allred

Really excited about what's coming. I'll be building this bench when it's ready for prime time. Thx Rex.

Robert Mitchell

Looking good!. One thing I have learned from working on a bench with a tool tray, the tray is useful if your bench stands in the middle of space in your shop, not so much if you have pushed it up against a wall. When your bench is free standing you need somewhere to lay your tools that won't allow them to be knocked off and fall to the floor...the tray...and you put up with the collecting shavings and dust which quickly cover and hide smaller objects. Up against a wall the tools won't get knocked or shaken off the top and there's no need deal with the tray full of shavings. When your bench is against the wall you have the opportunity to hang small tools on the wall, I dumped the tray and built another section of top for a split top with an 1 1/2" insert that pops up as a planing stop and has long 3/4" slots for parking chisels, saws, screw drivers etc. while I am using them, much more versatile and useful.

John Griswold

Very exciting, Rex! Happy Thanksgiving to you and all my fellow patrons.

Robert Judy

Could you post an approximate wood-needed list for this beforehand, so people could buy the lumber now and give it time to dry some so we can get right to work?

James K

Looks awesome and I can't wait to see what you doing next!

Paul Ballmann

Happy Thanksgiving! This looks like a big effort to get together. I don't imagine it will be something I build (having built the English joiner's bench and found it to be quite useful). My shop is small and I haven't really figured out room for the roman bench yet! I hope that you include ways to size down the bench...I'm 5'6" and I did not know to size down the English joiner's bench, so I need to use a platform under my feet for plane work. I imagine I'm not the only short woodworker you have :).

William Fishburne

Will the plans and video be available for all your patrons on Patreon?

Hansenomics

He talks about it in one of his earlier videos, I belive it's a super tiny draw knive

Jeremy Carlsten

Looking forward to it. On another note. I live in the Dayton area and find myself committed to hand tools; that being said, I lack the tools and the talent to sharpen my old hand saws (1 rip, 2 crosscut, and hopefully a tenon saw). Do you know of a sawyer that might be able to sharpen them ($$ natch)? Thanks.

mw moore

Ooooh, I'm thrilled for the build video! But first, happy holidays to you all! :-) And btw, I've been wondering for months: what is the small, monocle-like tool on your tool wall next to the hand saws and the draw knives?

Daniel Bohrer

Thanks, Rex, and enjoy the holiday. Your joiners bench was the first project I built from your channel, and I have thoroughly enjoyed it. However, this new one would let me clamp to it. Looking forward to seeing it.

Mike Maddin

Good Stuff, Happy Holiday's to ALL

Marc Barash

Funny they let me watch it but I had to sign in to “heart” it

Shawn D

Oooh, this is looking exciting. Can't wait to see this.

The Deaf Maker

This is so exciting. Thank you!

Larry

Good to see this! Will have to build this after I get my version of the Traveler done.

Huet Landry

Very, very nice looking bench

Nikoloz Petelava

Excellent! Can't wait.

Kevin S Thomas

Here I had my mind set on building your Nicholson bench when I get the room to do it, and you throw this temptation at me. Nice looking bench. Looking forward to seeing the assembly video. Thanks Rex.

Mike Washburn

Happy Thanksgiving, Rex

Stuart Slattery

Super exciting stuff!
