Exclusive Video: WBS #5 Anne Briggs

Friends:

I love it when a guest brings new skills to the table and Anne did not disappoint. She delivered an in-depth talk on greenwood spoon carving with special attention to tool selection and preparing wood.

If that weren't enough, she finished it off by bringing a baby goat on camera!  It was adorable beyond description.

I hope everyone enjoys this video. It's only available to Patrons at the $5 and $7 level and these videos are only possible because of your support.

You might notice that we're using Vimeo instead of YouTube for this one. If it works well, Vimeo will allow us to create an archive that Patrons can access anytime, so please let me know in the comments (here on Patreon; NOT on Vimeo) if you have any problems.

What a great presentation. I learned something about carving as well as great information about wood grain wood drying, and wood selection.

Rex, Anne is a fantastic teacher. Getting a 2 hour class into about 1/2 hour was amazing. You two out to put out a combined class every once in a while. Two great teachers with superb content! Thank you both!

Downside of vimeo, at least as you have it configured, is inability to add the video to a queue. Or for that matter to run it in the app since the video is private, or appears to be. I mean, I'll figure something out, it just means I'm more likely to not get around to watching these the same week/month they drop.

This was a great workbench session. Like Rex said at the end, I really appreciated the topic of spoon carving, which is different from much of the other woodworking content. It's refreshing to learn that you can make something useful with some wood a neighbor is getting rid of and a knife or two.

Really enjoyed seeing the whole live session. Anne is a lot of fun to watch in all of her endeavors. Thank you again Rex and Anne.

As Ann was showing her curved carving knives, I was thinking that they were similar to hoof knife used to clean and trim horses feet. They're abundant an I guess that they are cheap. The handle is smaller than those she was using, but somewhat ergonomic. I believe that would be a good existing tool to try. I think I'll do that once I find mine. I'm sure it will need to be sharpened, of course.

Cool will look at otter.ai

I will make sure this gets looked at today!

Just a thought - I use Otter.AI to transcribe stuff I've recorded to text in real time. I've also used it to create a text file for a video that I play on my computer. Something like that might be useful to you!

Some day I’ll get around to making the live session, but until then I’m enjoying catching these on replay. Nice work, as always, Rex!

I can understand your reason for using Vimeo, how ever it doesn't come with auto captions of any kind that I could see using my phone. Not checked on my laptop yet. A work around would be to upload the video to YouTube, when the auto captions have been created you can download the captions file then upload to Vimeo. Then you can remove the video from YouTube.

Can't make full screen on my cell phone. Works fine on computer
