The gauntlet has been thrown!!!

 Friends:

A couple of months ago, I arranged a collaboration with the amazing Uri Tuchman. If you haven’t seen his work, I insist you go check out his channel immediately. Uri combines top notch craftsmanship with an incredible sense of humor and outstanding filmmaking. He’s really one of my favorite creators and I was super-excited that he wanted to work with me.

…Until I got the package. Uri and I agreed to collaborate on a turning saw. He would make the pins and handles and I would build the frame and put the whole thing together. Well, his handles arrived and they are very intimidating.

This combination of brass and hardwood is classy and durable. He included a lovely dimpled texture that actually makes the handles easier to grip, and he engraved both our logos into the ends. My friends, the gauntlet has been thrown. I’m going to need to be on my game this week.

There’s a thread with more pictures over on the discourse.

New video Saturday!

I've been watching Uri videos all week...never heard of him before this. He's great I'm a subscriber for his videos now also.

Hey Adrian! The best steels for plane blades are generally 1095 and o1. These steels are simple, easy to heat-treat, and affordable. Even a lot of high-end plane-makers use them. Hope that helps!

Rex Krueger

In Rex's videos he talks about some metals that work. One suggestion was to use old lawn motor blades....I think..someone point him in the right direction.

James Bornheimer

You guys keep making these planes but I'm still trying to figure out which steel to use and WHERE to get it! Maybe I'm watching old videos but the links to the irons I keep trying don't work... I'm mostly on Amazon so links there would help (and help your channel!) ...

Adrian Abshire

I mean.... its ok i guess 😝 DON'T SCREW IT UP! We all know what it looked like "before" now lol

Now Im hungry for Pizza!!!

No pressure at all, Rex!

Gauntlet thrown down indeed, Uri's shaping skills are ridiculous, especially when you consider he does it all on a modified antique sewing machine.

Holy Sawdust Rexmaster, this one is going to keep me riveted to your show mate, cant wait to see what wondrous piece you come up with this time as I know you will, go with peace my son..

Brian Shaw

That's beautiful work. I'm amazed every time I watch Uri. But I know you're up to the challenge.

Michael Bennett

Wow... but still, you're all over this Rex. Looking forward to seing the results!

Grant Badesso

Yes, you are in trouble. I've been following Uri since he and James Wright collaborated. He does incredible stuff and his creativity is off the charts. Looking forward to seeing your part. Should be a great end product from you two!!

Alan Smith

I mean, it looks beautiful. But in my experience in watching the show, Rex figures it out.

Love his finger tapping machine. What a silly and fun thing to have. Once I saw him start engraving it, I knew this guy was very talented.

WhatMeWorry

Holy crap, Rex. That does look intimidating... like something that took a lot of time and effort. Bah. Screw it! You got this!
