Free Plans: Miterbox and Shooting Board

Friends:

Here are your free plans for the miter box and shooting board from this week's video. You make them possible so I hope you enjoy them!

On another note, please excuse me if I'm late responding to comments and messages. Getting weekly videos out while also helping to home-school my daughter is just an insane time-crunch and I'll admit I'm struggling a bit. None of you ever puts any pressure on me to produce, but I do put a bit of pressure on myself. Anyway, I might take a little longer than usual to respond to things.

I know many of you are in the same boat.

Courage!

Rex, Not only do you flirt with burn-out, you've been known to "finger-joust" with table saws! ;-) Keep up the great work, safety first of course.

Brenton

He does, in fact, say both. Depends on the skit. 😁

TwoRavens

I thought it was, 'Keep your stick on the ice." :)

Yohann_M

I wonder if putting another strip of the delran on a shooting board where the side of the plane travels is a good idea, just to make it super slick?

A1BASE

We all are these days, man. I've been on furlough for 2 months almost, and this has been some of the toughest time of my life. Little kids, house work, yard work, figuring out how to get groceries safely- it all adds up. Even with as supportive a spouse as I've got it's still tough. You need to make time to get away, even if that just means vegging out with some good video games or a book for awhile. You need that break from your routine to clear your head and refresh. Take a walk, go for a bike ride, *something* you can do just for yourself. Something that isn't work (or child-care or family) related, even if work is fun And, in the immortal words of Red Green: "Remember, I'm pulling for you. We're all in this together."

TwoRavens

You too! And thanks for the encouragement. It really, really helps!

Rex Krueger

Wise words. Some of the wisest I've heard in a while. I do flirt with burnout some weeks. I'm not gonna pretend otherwise.

Rex Krueger

I'm glad to support you making new content, however long it takes. I'd rather see good content on an irregular schedule for a long time vs you burning yourself out in a year or three to hit arbitrary deadlines. Been there, done that, have the t-shirt. Family takes precedence always.

TwoRavens

First let me say, you give far more than you ever ask or look for in return, you just keep giving. We are going through pressures we have never experienced. Cut yourself some slack mate. And can I say your presentation unique and that is what helps keeping you our number one stop. Take care and stay safe.

Gary Meechan

It's no joke!

Rex Krueger

Words to live by!

Rex Krueger

Thank you!

Rex Krueger

And thank YOU for making it possible.

Rex Krueger

Yeah, Sean's a jerk. Screw him!

Rex Krueger

I do put them first....usually.

Rex Krueger

THanks, Ed! That means a lot!

Rex Krueger

That one is okay, but for a really good shooting plane, I must recommend the new Stanley Low Angle Jack. It's not as great as everyone says, but it's an unbeatable shooter.

Rex Krueger

I was just thinking to myself, I really hope Rex has a shooting plane design in the archives and here it is!

Aaron Cook

Hi, Rex. My wife and I home schooled our three kids, and it was a major challenge even in the best of times. Clearly, these are not the best of times by any stretch of imagination. Please do what you can when you can. You put out high-quality videos and plans, and none of that comes cheap regarding time and personal energy. Take things one day at a time, and feel free to let yourself off the hook from time to time when you feel you need a time to rest and recharge. I am still trying to absorb all the great tips and insights you have already documented in your existing videos. Have a good day. Ed

Ed Smeltz

Thanks for the plans, and please, take all the time you need. Rushing things is never a good idea, specially when your working with tools that can harm you. And like others before me have already said: Family first! (except Sean ;-) )

Frans van Ballegooijen

Family...first and foremost .... Unless it is your cousin Sean who knocked your ice cream out of your hand when you were four.

James Bornheimer

Sooooo tempted to try again. Bought a scratch and dent mirror from Badcock (funny name, is legit furniture store, trust me) - The glass alone is probably worth $30+ - I got the whole thing for $7 and change. And it's fixable with just a bit of putty and stain... But there was this other mirror with a really tore up frame. I mean, not much difference between a mirror and picture frame :) Come to think of it, I got the idea /because/ of Rex's video on the shooting board... >_>

Jeremy Denslinger

I don't have children, but I have a friend who has been working from home and home schooling his boy for years now. Some days, the look on his face, I think his face is just going to melt off in tears. He loves his son and wife dearly, and loves the work he does - but when both are highly demanding, it can be overwhelming. I, on the other hand, am more or less retired, but have an ever growing bunch of chores on my honey-do list. It was all good, until I got back into building things... now that i think about it... geee Thanks Rex! Your fault! LOL Seriously though, Thank you so much for being such an awesome inspiration to me and so many more people! These are trying times (for different reasons to different people) - and if anyone can't understand you taking a little time to breath and be with your family... well, you're not the one in the wrong there! Thank you for being awesome!

Jeremy Denslinger

As I started to say: Yeah, these are odd times, but we're a really casual bunch and glad that you're able to get out all the things that you do. So ... thanks!

Richard Hengst

Yeah, these are odd times, but wei

Richard Hengst

No worries. We all know it's coming. We're woodworkers, we are used to waiting. Take care of primary family first.

Mike Willey

And relax. You're doing just great. Remember, tension is not attention.

Sean McGown

Fantastic! Coincidentally, I'm doing picture frames this week.

Sean McGown

Yep, working from home and helping keep kids on track with school work myself, so I totally understand!
