Free Plans: The $10 Saw Vise

Friends:

Here are the plans for this week's project!  I think this is a pretty good set, but as always, I'll let you be the judge. These have already been added to the Plan Archive over on Discourse, where you can find absolutely every plan I've ever sold and they're all free.

Free Plans: The $10 Saw Vise

Comments

I find quick-release bike axles interesting for a couple of reasons, including the low price of used ones (not hard to find for free, in my experience), and the fact that they are designed to take a one-time adjustment and then repeatably be set and released, in a safety-critical application. I wonder if they might help avoid some duplication of work in some future build.

I used cams widely in my DIY lathe project a year or two ago. I like them and I think they're very useful. I'm a little dubious about their value for vises. I've seen the one that dude is building and I give him full marks for creativity, but big screws just don't cost that much.

Do you work much with cam locks? I'm thinking something like this might be the perfect project. In fact, maybe you can find some cool uses for cam locks and have a video or series. I watched a couple on leg vises using a cam lock. Making our own really fits the Woodwork for Humans ethos.

Thanks for saying so!

Thanks, Rex! This is high on my to-do list. Perfect timing! And beautifully thought out.

Thanks for the detailed plans, Rex. They look good, and I will probably be building this sometime.
