Early Access Video: Wood Toys to Make with Your Kids

Friends:

I know that many of us are stuck at home and many of us have little kids that suddenly need a LOT to keep them occupied. So, lets get into the shop WITH the kids and make some fun toys.

I've got 2 great projects in this video and tips on how to involve your kids in the process. You can get in some shop time, entertain the little ones, and teach them something all at once.

The plans will be free to everyone, but as usual, I haven't drawn them yet. They'll be up on Wednesday morning.

Hope everyone is doing well. My family and I hope you're staying safe.

Thanks for your great video's. Ii just made the game board, I hope my grand boy's like it!

Ronnie Livingston

My brother had a paper-route, too! Good times!

Rex Krueger

My brothers played with these guns as children, and they didn't grow up to be mass murders. they both grew up to be carpenters - and very fine men too.

Robin Rees

Oh my goodness! This is a trip down memory lane. Back in the middle of the last century one of my brothers had a paper route, which meant he had what appeared to be an endless supply of rubber bands. My dad and my brothers made a whole arsenal of guns like this. They had pistols and long shot rifles, double barrel shotguns with side by side barrels, and a pistol with top and bottom barrels. I remember being a target for all of those guns. Mom made only one rule - you have to clean up your ammo when you're done. What joy.

Robin Rees

See, that's the problem. I would show them the gun, their mom would say "don't point it at people!" as I shoot the kid in the face.

Braden Mabry

My wife is no fan of guns, either. But I gave my daughter a stern talking to about never pointing it at people and she's been very cool about the whole thing.

Rex Krueger

If you have more good ideas, post them over at the discourse board. Let's crowd-source some good things to make!

What's your business?

Rex Krueger

I'm in the transportation and logistics field. I'm still working too. The LTL company I work for ships a huge amount of medical supplies.

Nic Beurskens

Me and almost all my colleagues were working from home since last Monday after the government in rather strong terms said to citizens to "Stay Home people" but the whole country got into lockdown mode since yesterday 6.00 and the "Stay Home people" became "Stay Home OR we are going to fine you a$$ like there is no tomorrow and in certain cases arrest you!!! ". Sooooo Stay home everybody, stay safe, hone your chisels!! :D. This is the perfect time to create new things and to check if the local lumber yard does delivery !!! and let us hope that Rex has enough content to post!!!!

Alexander Charonitakis

Ohio kind of rolls up the sidewalks tonight except for essential businesses. I'm in am essential business, so no break for me!

Jim Williams

Stay safe Alexander. Washington State is about to be locked down too. We are in this together!!!

Nic Beurskens

just got fully quarantined here in Greece (no movement outside from your house except for the necessary personnel) and the tic-tac-toe seems a nice way to pass my time . Anndddd just got ideas for many many more wooden tabletop games ...

Alexander Charonitakis

Like Nic, I don't have any kids. But I have 3 nieces (5 if you count temp. foster kids) and 1 nephew. And they all LOVE tic-tac-toe. When we went to vacation last year we went through like an entire notebook of paper playing tic-tac-toe. Guess who's gonna be the favorite uncle this year?!? (Who am I kidding, it's always me!) Sadly, my sisters are fairly anti-gun (at least in regards to their kids shooting people with them), but I'm an adult! That means I can play with them if I want to! Maybe I could make a couple of those swords and have a gun vs sword fight....hmmmm.....

Braden Mabry

I think they will! I might make a rubber-band rifle, just for fun.

Rex Krueger

I loved this video man. I was wondering if we'd get something like this when schools started closing. I don't have any kids, but I have 6 nieces and nephews to make things for. Here's hoping rubber band guns make it through the mail ok!

Nic Beurskens

Thank you! I'm really glad to hear it!

Rex Krueger

i love this and my kids are going to love this, thank you :)

Steve Parry

You too!

Rex Krueger

Glad you think so!

Rex Krueger

I totally agree. If we stick together and keep our heads, we'll come through it okay.

Rex Krueger

You're much too kind. Thank you!

Rex Krueger

What a great Dad you are. Your children are lucky to have a thoughtful and involved father like you. Well done, sir!

Mark Fannin

We've been seeing and hearing way too much doom and gloom in the past week or so, and this is a very welcome and encouraging ray of light! We don't have any little ones living with us, but just the fact that we can do some of these things with an eye towards when we can see them again, well, that makes a big difference in *my* day, and I'm sure it does for others too. Thanks for this one, Rex - another reason I'm glad I found you and Patreon. We'll get through this thing together!

Howard Tuckey

Good ideas, Rex.

A1BASE

Great vid for the times Rex. Thanks. Be safe.

Rick Prosser

Probably, but maybe the gun without the bands can still be fun. Honestly, I've played with it as much as my daughter. I might have to make another.

Rex Krueger

Awesome projects and awesome vision for this pandemic. Thanks as always Rex. Do you guys think that 10 months is too young for a rubber band gun?

Robert Storey

I love this. :)
