Friends:
This has been coming for a while.
Patreon might be a great crowd-finding site, but it's lousy for community. The Community tab has terrible functionality; it's hard to use and it doesn't make a space for good discussion. I've always been frustrated with it.
Recently, I've seen more and more Patrons struggling to share their projects and ask questions on the Community tab and I've been looking hard for a solution. I've looked at all the integrations available and I've even thought about moving the community off Patreon.
Finally, I found the Discourse integration, which is a very stable and easy-to-use discussion board system with image hosting, notifications, and a bunch of other nice features. If you're a Patron, you already have access.
Go here: https://rexkrueger.discourse.group/
Sign in with Patreon and check out the discussion boards. We've put up some fun topics and I've made a bunch of posts to get the ball rolling. Nate deserves a lot of the credit here. He mostly set everything up, and it took a while.
I think this is the change that's going to take our community to the next level. There's so much more we could be sharing and we can answer each other's questions. Many of you know as much as I do and you don't need to wait for me when you need to know something. One of your fellow Patrons might have all the information!
When you sign in, you'll get an automated email and the discobot will offer a tutorial for you. I highly recommend you use it. Also, I'm going to ask that no one message me with questions about Discourse for the next week. I'm brand new to the service and I can't help with much. You can probably get good answers from Google.
Next week, I'll do a post asking how it's all working and you can give me feedback and ask questions then.
For now, go check it out and share something! Most of us are stuck at home and now is the perfect time to network, share, ask and connect.
Onward!
