Free Plans: Go Viseless on the Joiner's Bench

You know what? In the rush to get my vise build finished and filmed, I almost forgot that you all need your free plans from Saturday's video. Sorry about that.

Fun fact: at 15 pages, this is longest set of plans I've ever done.

Hope everyone is having a good week!

Oh, I know! I ordered a pair of them a couple of days ago - was just interesting that you might be having an effect on the tool business - :-)

Howard Tuckey

That's still a steal!

Rex Krueger

Rex, you're having an effect on the economy! The Gramercy holdfasts have gone up in price since you recommended them - now up to $39.95 + shipping at the Gramercy site, and higher from other places.

Howard Tuckey

Steve, thank YOU for being here and supporting what I do. None of it would be possible without people like you!

Rex Krueger

I am older and now merely an occasional wood butcher. I appreciate the whole premise of the channel, cost effectiveness vs new technology. I can afford to buy any tool I wish, but I would have benefited from this channel and knowledge years ago, when I was struggling to support my family and still doing much of my crafting. You make me long for those times again. (Sometimes, well, my memory is feeble, obviously.). I like the juxtaposition of good vs good enough and cheap, and still hold true to the traditional values and engineering. My grandfather was a preeminent wood carver, self taught and displayed in museums in the midwest and Europe, but other than learning to love wood, I am more a technician than an artist. I can make most things, but making it beautiful is not my strength. I lean towards your building model, joy of the media, with a healthy dose of pragmatism. Thank you for your transparency and honesty, Steve.

I suggest the Gramercy Holdfast. https://toolsforworkingwood.com/store/item/ms-holdfast.xx/holdfasts_by_gramercy_tools

I found the Grammercy holdfasts in the next post: If you'd like to grab the products I mention in the video, the Gramcery Holdfasts are a STEAL at $38 a pair: https://toolsforworkingwood.com/store/item/ms-holdfast.xx/holdfasts_by_gramercy_tools

Be bold! Build one like Pask built last year.

Jim Williams

Where would you get a holdfast from? I saw a few online but don't know which one to get.

Martyn Speck

That is officially the craziest source of scrap hardware ever!

Rex Krueger

It's totally my pleasure! I'm glad to have you as part of our little community!

I absolutely love the plane stop. I'm adding that to my new bench for sure. I'm also making a few of the dowel washer batten stops, those are gonna come in super handy. Happens that I have a few hinges that got nicely mangled by a bear breaking into my bee yard so I'll be all set! :D

If you scroll down through the previous posts on Rex's profile, you'll see a little box with the name of the pdf file at the end of the post. Just click there to get it.

Mark Coren

How do you get to the other PDFs?

Forrest Beal

Oooo thanks for the heads-up! I know how I'm spending my morning off today then 😜 I love Rex's style and substance... and now, his generosity too! He's the type of contributor who makes YouTube worthwhile!

Mark Coren

You're in for a lot of great content sir. Check out Rex's past PDF distributions like; the 30 dollar Roman bench, making your own mallet and many other tools. He even made a stool with just three tools and it came out great. It just gets better and better. Enjoy.

Long time viewer, first time caller 😁 I just became a patron and a few minutes later, you posted this. That's a great way to start my day! Your knowledge and great instruction have helped me move from an occasional wood mangler to a much more skilled (and productive) woodworker. Thanks for all of your insights Rex!
