Free Plans: The Advanced Joiner's Mallet

Friends:

I think I've gotten more requests for these plans than any others!  So, I'm very excited to present you the plans for the Advanced Joiner's Mallet. I hope everyone finds these clear and accessible. I hope many of you build this mallet and then show us all the pictures.

Hope you're having a good holiday season!

I’m going to make this mallet for my dad for Father’s Day. What were some headaches or notes you used when making the mallet?

Jacob Downing

Hey, I purchased these plans and then signed up as a patron. I made this mallet over the last few days and love it.

Zachary

Thanks so much, makes sense! One other question I had, when watching the video, it seems like you have your mallet head finished/sealed before even cutting mortise / curves. Am I mistaken in seeing that? If not, why finish the piece before you cut? I'm new and honestly dont know. Also, what did you use to finish the piece? So many questions 🙈

Taylor Schalmo

I'm so glad you're enjoying it. The handle goes through the narrow side. I should have made that clear in the plans.

Rex Krueger

Thanks!

Taylor Schalmo

Rex, I'm loving all of your content man, it's amazing for me as a beginner to come in and learn so much! I'm so hooked. I just cut my mallet head from a big maple round I've had sitting around. Split it and sawed down then planned to a perfect 6"x3"x2 3/4" stoked to keep going. Doing this all by hand. I had a question, does the handle go through the 2 3/4" side or the 3" side? I guess another way to ask this, which side gets the 7 degree angle cut for the faces?

Taylor Schalmo

thank you

Steve Parry

You too, jack! Thanks for being here!

Rex Krueger

I have been enjoying your Youtube videos for a while now. Strange that this build would be the one to tip the scales for me to contribute on Patreon. I really enjoy your keep-it-simple style and how you encourage everyone to try, with or without the high-priced tools. That's how some of us got started to begin with! Rock on, Rex!

Jack

Thank you :)

Yeah, I need more help around here. I'm over-worked and I forget stuff.

Rex Krueger

I'm seeing a pattern here. 😃

Steve Crane

Whoops! Forgot the attachment. Sorry about that!

Rex Krueger

Not sure what the dimensions on the head are. I'll also have to do some math for the handle length. Is there an attachment I'm missing? I'm really excited to see it and look forward to building it.
