Sneak Peak: Make your own marking guages

Friends:

Woodwork for Humans returns and I'm filling up your tool tote with cheap and effective tools!

Everyone needs a marking gauge, but commercial models are either very expensive, or kind of mediocre. But why buy it when you can make it for nothing?

In tomorrow's video, I'll show you how to craft these all-wood marking gauges. They don't need a screw or any other hardware beyond the pin that serves as the cutter. They lock with an ingenious little dowel mechanism (I didn't invent it, but I wish I did.) Best of all, these gauges lock with one hand; no fiddling around with a screw while trying to hold your fence steady. In many ways, these gauges are BETTER than commercial ones and all they cost is some scrap and a couple or hours of shop time.

See you tomorrow!

That's HILARIOUS.

That's a popular idea. I'm going to start working out the designs today!

I for one would like to see a vise added to the bench

They look really good, can’t wait to see how the smaller dowel holds it tight.

An old saying from my USAF days, "Measure it with a micrometer, mark it with a piece of chalk, cut it with an axe." B-52 guys were real comedians back then.
