Early Access Video: Spiked Mace on the Wood Lathe

Hoo-Boy!

This one was a handful. The project was challenging, the filming was tricky, and the edit was...painful. But I really think it came out in the end.

Many of you have praised me for a minimal video style, and I'm glad that you like it. But once in a while, I'm going to stretch out a little bit. Especially with the shiny new toys I've just gotten. So the film-making on this one might be just a bit more polished than you've seen before.

Whether you like it or you don't, I always want to hear from my Patrons. So don't hold back in the comments.

Enjoy the last of your weekend!

Early Access Video: Spiked Mace on the Wood Lathe

Comments

Yup, it dries faster, fills gaps better and is stronger for dissimilar materials, like different species of wood. (This last point is dubious, but the chemical, rather than evaporative, drying of epoxy meant that I could spray finish while the glue was still tacky and it worked out fine.)

Rex Krueger

NOPE! It is not durable at all. I wouldn't want to even drop it.

Rex Krueger

That turned out pretty sweet! Any plans for a durability test video?

David

A fully functioning trebuchet. 2 ft high. Woodworking, turning AND proper engineering.

A1BASE

Why do you use epoxy for gluing your wood rather than wood glue?

A1BASE

Here's a challenging historic weapon. Build a B-52! You might need to work outside .

Jim Williams

Now THAT is something I never even thought of. Interesting...

Rex Krueger

A shield is nice idea too

Kostas Karanatsis

Every warrior needs a shield. Does that count as a historic weapon? Great work on the mace, it looks awesome!

Eldon

Nice job Rex... 👍

Frans van Ballegooijen

:))) So it is Indonesia! :) Amazing how far one can get with a good content, congratulations!!!

Pawel Gotlib

Will do!

Rex Krueger

It's not the Polish flag (although I forget which one it is). I'm going alphabetically and I'm not up to P yet. Maybe this week?

Rex Krueger

I hear you on the auto-focus, but it is convenient when I need to be fast. This camera has much better access to manual settings, so I'll get deeper into that as I have time.

Rex Krueger

Thanks! I do want to keep branching out.

Rex Krueger

Um, I do like Devo. Making that dome out of wood...I'm going to need to think about that.

Rex Krueger

That would have been fun, but I do not put that much thought into things!

Rex Krueger

Cool video! You can add Switzerland in the flag board!

Benoit Holliger

Hey, Rex! Could it be that you have Polish flag upside down on your board? :)))

Pawel Gotlib

First of all, the "end product" is excellent! a sword will be great too!. As for your new toys the quality is very nice, but i think the auto-focus is a trap. Thumbs up for the wall with the flags, its a nice touch.

Kostas Karanatsis

I thought the video was good. The subject was great. I think you should never get into a rut where you are doing the same thing every week. Variety is the spice of life! Keep up with what you are doing!

Jim Williams

That's really cool. It doesn't quite fit, but what about your take on a Devo Energy Dome?

Jessica McIntosh

I liked it. Especially the problem solving part with the drill press and laying out the centre lines, it's useful to see the thought process behind that. Also fun to see the flag board suddenly jump to more. It would have been a great easter egg to have it increase by one flag every scene change
