Sneak-Peek: Wooden Mace Replica

Friends:

To celebrate the paperback release of _One Week to Woodturning_, I decided to do an ambitions turning video.

This is a 16th century Hungarian mace. I copied it from an example in a famous historical weapons collection. It was a lot more difficult than expected (I should have thought harder about the challenges of turning a five-inch sphere and 22 wooden spikes).

Anyway, the finish is still wet on the piece and the edit is in the works. I'll most likely have this up on Sunday morning, but I think it's a good one.

Hope everyone's weekend is off to a great start!

Sneak-Peek: Wooden Mace Replica

Comments

Any updates on this? I've got my father's old ShopSmith and am ready to start wielding chisels with complete abandon!

Brandon Daggerhart

That's interesting. The museum catalog calls this a mace. Maybe the definition is a bit fluid?

Rex Krueger

I failed you. As a former D&D enthusiast and patron, I should have seen this earlier and let you know that once you add spikes to a mace, it becomes a morning star. If you put a chain between the handle and the ball, it becomes a flail.

Jason Bailey

Indeed. Wait until you have to wait ANOTHER week for them to merge the versions

James Boatright

It's "under review" should be approved monday-ish. It's the same as the e-book version, so I don't know what they're reviewing. It's frustrating.

>>"To celebrate the paperback release of _One Week to Woodturning_"<< ^ This is of great interest to me, got a date yet? (I don't see it on amazon)

Brandon Daggerhart

Well, it's a replica. Full-size. Also, yes, the map IS the territory.

Rex Krueger

Unless, suddenly the map is the territory

James Boatright

This is a MODEL OF a 16th century mace....

James Boatright

Well, without a lathe it's gonna be a challenge...

Frans van Ballegooijen

Brilliant, love it. Lol. Never considered turning a mace before. 🤣.

Dick Edie

Don't sell yourself short! It's just individual pieces and none of them is too hard. Wait till you see the video.

Rex Krueger

Way out of my league, but I love how it turned out...
