Sneak Peak: Make your own (good) try-squares.

Friends:

This week is going by quicker than most.  I guess that's a good thing because so much interesting stuff is going on. Next week, I'll be a guest blogger on the excellent woodworking blog Toolerable < http://toolerable.blogspot.com/ > where I'll be discussing making your own squares.

And on Wednesday, I'll be the guest on the outstanding Make or Break Podcast <  https://www.makeorbreakshop.com/podcast >. I met the host, Brandon, at Spring Make and gave him an advance paperback copy of _One Week to Woodturning_. I guess he liked it, because I'm going to be on the show.

This is kind of a big deal. Former guests have included Jimmy Diresta, Anne of All Trades, Chirs Schwarz, and Frank Howarth. So...yeah. I'm in VERY good company. I'm not sure when the show will air, but I'll let you know.

Oh, and I'm making squares. I made a bunch. It wasn't hard and the results were pretty and very accurate. Or at least they will be after I finish truing up the big one. These are a GREAT skill-builder and you end up with a tool you can actually use.

See you tomorrow!

Love the Maker or Break Show--look forward to your episode!

Well, you only have to wait a few more hours. In fact, I need to stop hanging out on Patreon and go finish the edit.

For the most part, they do. You need to use stable, dry lumber and and treat them well. Also they're very easy to fix if they ever go out. If you go back about 100 years, this is all a joiner would have, so they must work!

I'm glad you're excited. The video should be up in a few hours!

I am so stoked you are doing this!!!!! Thanks Rex. I have a small engineer's square I trust but, I could use a couple more sizes and I'd like to be able to get inside corners more easily. I'm planning to doing furniture with casework once I finish my bench so this timing is great!

Only one way to find out...

Ooooh, now this is a video to get hyped for! I love making my own shop jigs / accessories / tools. Can't wait!

Brandon Daggerhart

I'm sure I can. Already found some videos on the subject. Just waiting on your view on the subject. I might just do this. Just for the experience...

Frans van Ballegooijen

You can totally make your own and then can come out very nicely.

Congrats on all of your guest appearances. It's gonna be a busy time for you. I'm curious about making those squares. I've got two good ones and I'm waiting on a combination square. It's a cheapo from china so I don't know it it's gonna be any good. We'll see... And one can never heve enough squares, chisels, planes, screwdrivers... Did I mention squares? ;)
