Sneak-Peak: All about squares.

Friends:

Last week's tool tote project reinforced the necessity of a good square in woodworking. I hate to say it, but a speed square just won't cut it.

Of course, even if you have the money for some squares, you still need to know what to get and how to use it. I plan to answer these questions and more in this week's video. I'll cover the essential try-square, the versatile engineer's square, and lots of other odds and ends along the way.

I'll have it up this weekend, just like usual.

Hope everyone is well.

Only 3? Amateur. ;)

Bevel gauge. I could NOT find the word. I only own 3

It's true. Squares are cheap. Might as well go totally overboard.

I need to get at least one of the teeny tiny engineers squares. With that, a speed square and a good ol' Tri Square I'm pretty much set. You can have too much of a good thing. Like planes. You know, just for example.

A1BASE

Interesting! I could do that. They're really essential.

I wanna learn all about the angle copy thingys!

Jim Williams

They're a cheap thrill. The "angle copy thing" is a bevel gauge. They're really useful and often very beautiful. You're right, though. I do own a lot of tools.

Six try squarea, three engineers squares, and SEVEN angle copy things, good lord

James Boatright

Speed square, engineers square, adjustable angle copy thing and PRRHAPS a framing square. You sir, have rather a lot of squares. Your addiction clearly extends beyond planes

James Boatright

Next week, I think we'll make some. I should have some good tips!

Rex Krueger

I have been hesitant to make my own squares but, I'll finally have some spare 1/2" plywood to try it out. I would love to hear what you have to say about how to maintain shop made squares and what features you would suggest!
