Early Access Video: Fine Furniture Joinery on the Lathe

Friends:

I recently had to make a workout bench for my wife and she wanted it FAST. So, rather than use traditional mortise-and-tenon joinery, I turned round tenons on the lathe. Then I made mortises by just drilling holes and I wedged my tenons for an ultra-tight fit. The whole thing came out fast, easy, and rock-solid. I'm quite proud of the finished product.

And yes, this is another video where I promote my new book, but I promise that next week's video won't even mention the lathe.

Stay warm!

Now that looks like a time-saver!

And thank goodness for that!

On the subject of lathes, you might find this interesting: <a href="https://hackaday.com/2019/01/19/strobe-for-wood-turning-makes-inspection-easy/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://hackaday.com/2019/01/19/strobe-for-wood-turning-makes-inspection-easy/</a>

I'm glad you found it useful! It's really quick and easy. I thought I knew what to expect, but even I was surprised.

I've always wondered how I could better incorporate lathe work into furniture projects. I'll remember this for next time.

The best thing about turning is that most of it is artistic choice. So as long as you sand it smooth and give it a food finish, people like it.

Jason Bailey

You really do! I bet you're a good turner.

Looks great! I like that you are on a lathe kick. I need to knock the dust off my lathe tools and do some turning now.
