Early Access Video: Vintage Saw Art

Friends:

This week, I'm collaborating with the amazing Iron Gordon. He does really slick, vintage-style art in a bunch of mediums. He's big on Instagram, but hasn't really gotten the YouTube thing happening yet. He deserves a big following, so I'm hoping to throw some attention his way.

Together, we collaborated on this HUGE vintage crosscut saw; like the kind that lumber jocks would have used to cut up tree trunks. He painted the saw; I made an intricate segmented handle and sphere ends for it. It's crazy and I hope you all enjoy it.

Also, I realize I'm behind on the drawing for the jack plane. I hope that happens before this weekend. And the AMA video is still on. It's just a time thing.

Thanks so much for your patience and continued support!

It's almost Friday,

I mix it on blue painter's tape that I stick to my bench-top. That helps with the mess.

Wood glue is just too easy every time I reach for epoxy I sigh. I don't like all the mixing and sticky stuff :)

You know, I'm not sure it would have helped. For wood-to-wood, the conventional wisdom is the wood glue is best, although I don't know for sure. It's a tricky subject. I think if I did it again, I'd go epoxy.

I was suprized you didnt go with epoxy from the start.

James Boatright

Now THAT is a major oversight on my part. Thanks for catching it!

by the way, I think the YouTube description is missing the links to Iron Gordon's channel/pages. couldn't find them..

I must say - it came out amazing!! at first I thought that adding spheres would be "too much", but the segments, extra long size and the balls actually complement the painting so nicely! it reminds me of a happy circus flag (or sign). in a good way, that is :) Looking at it makes me smile and think happy woodworking thoughts! cheers!
