Early Access Video: Bent Wood Guitar Stand

Friends:

I recently got a new guitar and when I got an old guitar stand out of the closet, I realized that it was ugly and that I could make something better.

So I did.

This is my first experiment with bent lamination, an accessible technique that anyone can use to make springy, graceful curves with wood.

I'm really happy with the finished product, but as always, I want to hear YOUR thoughts in the comments.

I didn't thank my newest patrons in this video because it was already a bit long, but I'll fix that in my next video.

Hope you're all having a great Holiday Weekend!

I don't see a community tab, so I just created a Flickr album, something I probably should have done a long time ago: https://www.flickr.com/photos/johnlaudun/albums/72157670918599617

Thanks, buddy!

Additionally, I like the wipe at about 5:00. Very Kurosawa. You should do more of that.

Also, I thought I got the long end of the deal. Looks like we each got a great deal!

great intro!

Dude, I'm the worst. I can't throw any material away.

You're not helping my hoarding tendencies!

I actually kid of cut them by accident while I was trimming some table legs. A good table saw and a carbide blade will slice some very thin veneers. I was going to throw them away, but then I was like "hey, these are nice veneers; maybe I should keep them". Glad I did.

Rex Krueger

That's a really good result. How did you cut the thin veneers for the spiral support? I still think it's a crossbow though.

Matthew Leigh

Thanks! I've never seen a tripod chair, but I'll look it up for sure. You can post pics, etc in the community tab.

Nice design. As a side note, what you've done here is reminiscent of an African tripod chair -- most of the examples I've seen are from West Africa. I'd post a photo, but I don't know that Patreon comments allow that.
