Exclusive Video: Shop Tour

Friends:

August has been an AMAZING month for me on Patreon (and the month is only half-over!) I've added many new members to the channel and some of my current supporters have upped their support level. I'm delighted and humbled by this show of support.

To say thanks, I did a shop tour video that's only for Patrons.

Big thanks to my friend and Patron, Alex Larson, who was visiting for the weekend and did the camera work for me.

If you have questions about anything in the video, leave a comment below.  I may be able to do another exclusive video where I answer some questions.

Anyway, thanks again. You're all making these videos possible.

It is cleaner than my shop that is for sure.

Aaron Sprague

That's a nice thing to say. And yes, I use the hell out of it. I keep it clean in all the work areas and I put my tools away, but beyond that I deliberately allow it to get a little cluttered and disheveled . I find a space like that more comfortable and creative. If it's too clean and neat, I don't feel like I can experiment and mess up.

Rex Krueger

I fail, but endeavor to implement Adam Savages "first order tool availability"

You know what I like most about your shop? It looks just like my shop or my dads shop. It looks like a shop that gets used.

Aaron Sprague

Lol, although I do share this opinion, I think I opt for something worse. I end up just piling everything on all the flat surfaces I can find until I am standing dumbly with a tool in my hand looking for a clear spot to put it.

Aaron Sprague

Well, I see we have strong feelings on this subject. I come from a family of mechanics, so this type of chest is natural to me, but you can see I use a tool-board as well, so I store my tools a number of ways.

Rex Krueger

Drawers. Bah.

James Boatright

Oh my God, a mechanics tool box. Aaaaarrrrggggghhhh. Draws are were things go to die. Small things get kicked to the back and enter the same black hole socks disappear into. The small metal things get drawn into clothes hangers

James Boatright

Rex, Adam Neely's QandA videos are always my favorites. You've got to get on that ASAP!

Alex Larson

A Q and A video would be great!

Alex Larson

I'll make that the first question for my first QandA video. And yeah, it has been a pretty interesting life.

Rex Krueger

That was really interesting. I'd love to find out more about your background and how you got to where you are now. You mentioned jobs in California and Florida, the teaching etc. It sounds like you've had an interesting life.
