Process Notes: Coffee Shop Sign
Added 2018-08-02 19:04:52 +0000 UTCSo, it's time to polish off these last fabrication jobs. A few weeks ago, I shared pictures of my progress on a sign for a local coffee shop. (And then last week, I complained about how I couldn't even do the install since the old sign was glued to the wall.)
Anyway, the owners finally got the old sign down and painted the wall, so I did the install.
I have to admit, I'm really happy with how this one turned out.

The client wanted it to float, so I made some little steel stand-offs and I have to admit that the shadow behind it looks quite dramatic.

Even once I'm out of the fabrication game for good, I'll always be proud to have my work in a local landmark.
It's a nice feeling.
Hope you're all having a great week!

2018-08-03 00:42:29 +0000 UTCYou're totally right. I need to be flexible. Fab work is cash and I think the biggest burden now is that I have to say yes to everything that isn't absolutely ludicrous. Maybe I can keep my hat in the ring for the good stuff. After all, if Jimmy the Godfather of the Maker Movement can still take client work, I'm certainly not above it.

2018-08-03 00:23:09 +0000 UTCYou should look at it as no longer seeking out client work, being pickier about what jobs you take, and charging a little more. Some of Jimmy Diresta's more interesting projects are his client jobs...maybe I just like signs... Anyway, I think if you aren't relying on the client work for your living, but just do it for the fun of it, bonus material, and extra cash, it could still be a good thing.

2018-08-02 20:56:10 +0000 UTCI admit, I wasn't expecting it to look this good. We'll see how the customers like it over the next few weeks. Ironically, this could lead to more fabrication work...which I no longer want to do.
