Early Access Video: How to hide shop expenses from your spouse

So, I'm hoping everyone takes this in the spirit of fun and good humor. This video is about keeping your shop purchases secret from your spouse. The tips I present are real and I have to admit that I've done most (or all) or the things I suggest. But I'm presenting it in a pretty overblown and sarcastic way. The tips are real, but the tone of the video is meant to be funny.

Thanks as always to my own wife, who makes my creative career possible.

Thanks to all of you for helping support videos like this!

I am another one voice... I know this is over two years old, I am a new Patreon, and new to this channel, but that's not the issue here. Reactions such a @Barbra Schulz is. I haven't even seen the video yet as I post this, but I know right from the get go it is a guy having a little fun, you can tell that he would never deceive to harm or put his family in a situation that would be harmful, physically, financially or otherwise, it was a joke there was a disclaimer that said so and he thanked his wife for her support, so which makes this whole video a joke (wink, Wink). I settle for cheaper in my family for the same reasons, but my equipment is a hobby, I ask people to pay for materials, and never profit from my craft, because it is a love, so I can (in my mind), never condone a large purchase, especially without my wife's consent. Be cause I love and respect her and her opinion and it matters to me what she thinks. Have I ever thought about making a large purchase without her, and ways to deceive her about it? Of course I have, I have had things in shopping carts only to be deleted. And I have even joked about it, just to get a reaction out of her. But would I ever actually deceive her? Absolutely Not! I do not nor will I ever believe that Rex for one second thought he was going to produce a video for its intention to be teaching of deception, just a guy having a little fun at the expense of his wife, whom is probably a large contributor in Rex's success, I know mine is and I can't even justify it "as needed for business". The world needs to stop being so fragile and stop looking for hidden messages in things, let loose and laugh a little, which is what I will be doing in 2 seconds, when I press the play button on the video, fully knowing a head of time because I read the article, every word (wink, wink), I would deceive you Rex.... I promise (wink wink), that this is nothing more than a little fun.

Yeah, that reaction is pretty much what I was afraid of. And you're right, I wouldn't want this to be the only take-away someone got from my channel. I'm hoping that the wink and nod and the sincere parts at the end make up for some of the less-charitable things I say here. Like I said, the content is meant to be mostly humorous. Still, maybe I won't release it to YouTube. I'll have to think it over.

I’m going to have to be the odd one out. Teaching deception, and believe me you have some good tips about how to deceive someone, is not what I would hope to learn on your channel. The “truth” that we should be wary to teach is often done in jest with a wink or nod. Make no mistake about it, you are really teaching here. I’m not the only person who just learned another way to pull the wool over an intimate’s eyes, and I have done it myself. We all have to negotiate how to expend tight resources and sometimes it’s just easier to secretly take what we want. I trust your wife does the same for her interests. My point here is not meant as a “value judgement,” but rather a question of value. Why would I turn to your channel to learn about tools and making things (and frankly just watching it happen) if the first video I saw was this? I am amused at watching how to play shell games to fool people, but I only watch that channel once. Your instincts to be worried are speaking volumes to you. It’s okay to miss a week if you are hitting a creative blank wall. But is it good to unintentionally misdefine your brand? I am only one voice. You have to be your own man. And I’m not posting this to be willy-nilly opinionated. Who cares what an old woman thinks? I’m posting it to be another helpful voice.

I guess I better re-cut the video to fix that. I'll get right on it.

The truth will NOT set you free.

George: I'm so glad you liked it and thought it was funny. I admit that color balance is a real problem in my videos and something I need to improve on. I'm going to keep working on it because it bugs me, too. Thanks for the feedback; it really helps!

Beautiful and funny as hell! lol I couldn't stop smiling. great video, Rex! you and your wife deserve all the credit. Also loved the "prescription" image, lol! you've got an excellent sense of humor. This is one of the most original woodworking videos out there. I take my hat off and bless this video to live long and prosper! one tiny thing - the lighting/color balance between 1:20 and 4:20 are much much better than the rest of the vid (which is more yellowy). If you can pin point the reason - I suggest you use that lighting/color for future vids as well. I'm really glad I'm a patron :)

I'm really glad you liked it. I'm a little nervous about this one. I don't want anyone to take it the wrong way. I mean, I do all this stuff, but I'm pretty up-front with the wife, tool

That was funny! I fund my workshop from freelance IT work. Unfortunately, my clients usually pay with checks, so I have to cash those through my regular bank account, but they go straight to cash and it sits in a jar in my bedroom. My wife knows about it and I deposit the money or buy household items with cash whenever I do the online purchases. She seems to be fine with it.
