The thing updated is like this: They reach 100.000 years of cultivation and they have 1000 years to make a decision: Change to human form, and face the dangers of maturing and cultivating until being powerful enough to defend themselves, or after 1000 years face Heaven punishment, which usually ends in death. Only the really lucky soulbeasts or those who have special circumstances can survive Heaven tribulation and live for another 100.000. There are bits and pieces explained in the following SL books.

Cont'd (II).. ABOUT SOUL BEAST IMMORTALITY: Tang San's Dad explained this in episode 109. The explanation is that when a Soul beast reaches 100,000 years of cultivation, they're the same as Grand Soul Masters. But at this point, they are faced with two choices. 1). Maintain their life as usual but they cannot survive 1,000 more years then die. 2). The second choice is CHANGING FORM into human. This is because of all living beings, humans are the most potent species. After changing form, it's kinda like a reset button for them so they need to start cultivating from scratch. They will still possess their original Soul ring until reaching level 60 to become completely human. That original Soul ring is what Martial Soul Hall tried to take from Tang San's Mom and Wu. The main thing with CHANGING FORM to human is that if they manage to reach level 100, they become Immortal gods. Without the "being a god" part, changing form is just risky business because that 1,000 extra years they can live by maintaining their beast form is already more than the live span of humans. Another key thing with Soul beasts after changing form is that their cultivation is faster than humans and they also need to mingle with humans or else they can't progress. They can also manifest their own first 5 Soul rings from their previous cultivation until reaching 60 when they have to also start hunting for rings. By then, they've entered the mature period and become completely human. In this episode, Xiao Wu just achieved that "Mature period".
