There is a thing in Soul land with split consciences. I Like to think of Asura and Rahskasha like that, one is the physical evil and other the psychological evil. Everybody throws punches in the end, but I think it makes more ssense that way. Maybe its not so dont listen to me. Gods are sons of bitchz and they are as greedy and scheeming as humans. This I dont know for sure, but maybe the Asura god position is important somehow and maybe the other god wanted to prevent the inheritance. But I dont know if the inheritance means the main god is weak or is gonna quit or why would he interrupt it
