The Tang sect is know for their knowledge ininventions, weapons and poison. It's a common thing, and you can even see it in some martial arts dramas and stuff.
I think this must be the first time that Tang sect knowledge in this stuff is inferior to someone. I mean, Tang San knows the poison, he can know the thing he is dealing with, but he can't cure the poison.
Im excited for the future seeing this "mass scale" battle.
