Foregone Fables Dust Guide - Air

Air is more important for the survival of a human than water is; a human person can survive for nearly a week without water, but not an hour without air. And yet air doesn't have nearly as much presence in the human cultures, and is often ignored completely. That is because air is invisible, ubiquitous, and is present everywhere on the planet. Aside from underwater, there is almost no place in Remnant that isn't filled with air. Moreover, air is invisible, static and its presence is rarely felt.

There is, however, one major way that air gives itself presence: Wind. That phenomenon is nothing more than air moving, and as with anything else, moving other things along with it. Wind can be soft, harmless and refreshing, but it can also be deadly, tearing objects in its wake. That wind and air itself are also the subject for one of the major types of magic in the world.

Air Dust is mostly in crystal form. It usually appears as singular crystals rather than groups, but each crystal is larger than most Dust crystals, which gives people an opportunity to carve them. While not frequently used in weaponry or conventional industry, one of its uses is in experimental spaceflight. Since Dust needs air to be triggered, some hope the use of Air Dust can be used to create a cycle where the Dust provides itself with energy.

When triggered normally, Wind Dust releases powerful gusts of wind in all directions. It is unknown if this Dust creates air or simply generates force that moves it, but since Light and Gravity Dust do similar things, many believe this is the former, but others claim that the creation of these types of Dust is somehow related. Injecting Wind Dust into one's body causes a sharp increase in their speed and allows the user to fly, breathe powerful winds, and blur itself with wind to become invisible. However, the user rather risks being suffocated and their strength and durability are reduced.

More controlled usages of Air Dust allow the user to create a direct blast of air, which can be fired downwards or backwards for propulsion, and use more versatile abilities such as causing wind that blurs the sight, creating an orb of air or an explosive air bubble, creating a vortex, blowing away enemies, deflecting attacks, powering up one's own physical moves, creating barriers of air and concentrated streams of wind, levitating objects, creating twisters, summoning sharp aerial blades that cut down targets, and creating compressed air projectiles as simple bullets or with a defined shape such as shurikens, birds, spirals, tiger heads, wolf heads and clawed hands. The ultimate mastery of Wind Dust can create tendrils of swirling wind that cut through anything in their path, or surrounding the user's body or a weapon in a wind mantle that enhances their strength and defense, generates wind that pushes away objects, and blurs their form.

Air Dust is not quite popular among huntsmen and huntresses, and much like air itself, is often ignored and overlooked. Even though not much attention is paid to air and Air Dust, they certainly hold great power on their own right - A power that can send papers and leaves flying at best, or tear apart buildings and throw people to their deaths at worst.
