Songs of the Week 🎶 (Weeks 55 - 56)

Week of Dec 26 and I'll finally be in 2025! VOCES8 can sing anything they want and I will gladly listen. This very familiar carol was made even nicer thanks to their voices and blends. Loved it. The Blower's Daughter was marvelous. I can't believe it had only 62 views and 5 likes, now 6. The lead's voice is truly magic and the song is simply beautiful. Superstar also fell flat for me. OK, but nothing stood out. Peter Hollens Carol of the Bells I liked a lot, but also had a couple of things I didn't like. The main one is that I don't like it at all when a single singer records multiple tracks and then blends them together for a bigger sound. It's the concept I don't like. As he added more and more people to the video, it got better for a long time, but then it seemed a bit too much near the end. Nice for Christmas season though. The Chaconne was interesting, but not really to my taste. Seemed slow and plodding. As an Elgar fan, I thoroughly enjoyed this. The ending is a bit sad, but the song is beautiful and wonderfully sung. Loved it. I seldom hear a French pop song, so I really enjoyed this one. How nice to end the year with PTX early version of O Holy Night. The pure sounds without any other support and their great stylings make this really stand out. Lovely to have Kirstie in the primary lead role as well. Well, now it's on to 2025!

Week of Dec 10, 2024. The Bach prelude was a perfect way to start this week's list. It was beautifully simple and straightforward. Thanks to you, I have become a huge fan of Stephen Sanchez and this song was just perfectly done for the mood he was setting. Loved it. Sure Sure was a nice enough song and certainly was funky. For me, though, nothing special here. The Vivaldi Stabat Mater fooled me. I expected to be blown away, but I was not. Seemed a bit repetitive and slow moving as well. Nice though. PTX, Christmas, pure acapella -- how could I NOT love this and indeed I did love it. I actually think not having a video helped as it allowed me to focus on nothing but the song and performance. Heavenly harmonies. By the time Rag Doll came out, I had gotten over my puerile insistence that rock was not anything for me. And this song was one of those that put me on the pop hit track. I'm such a sucker for great harmonies after all. I was lucky enough to have already heard OOTB doing Santa Baby. What's not to love? I particularly liked all of the variations they put to the song, particularly in the second half. They couldn't make me forget Eartha Kitt, but they did give me pure enjoyment. Beanie had a lot of potential, but it seemed like it was over just as it was getting started. Too short. Left me wanting more.

Ever considered to hear Floor Jansen covering Alone on her own channel? Since you have Done some nightwish it might be intresting to hear her in a diffrent setting

Simon Nilsson

Ooft tough question - not sure I can answer that! 😅 He's varied and has so much work, and I think one of the most accessible when it comes to 'classical' music 🎶 Definitely up there with my favourites for sure

I love how you randomly add Bach every now and then, is he your favorite composer? He's my favorite composer :)

Leave The Door Open is groovy isn't it. Reaction currently in copyright limbo Not the Sugar Plum, although I can see why you think that! It's based on the Bach piece I provided right next to it 😊 Just listen to the first 5-10 seconds and you'll immediately see it

A great list this week for sure! Fine Young Cannibals, nice! That SYML song was heartrending. You'll always get me with Bruno Mars, though. That song is SEXAYYYY. 🤩 The Jem song, was that based on the Dance of the Sugar Plum Fairy, or was it just my imagination?

Karen McEwan

No! I may need to look into this...

Sir Hairless

Are you going to see SYML in October?
