This has to be in my top 5 PTX songs because of the pure simplicity (for me); that being said, I have a very hard time pulling out Kevin. Once you threw up the cords, or played them on the keyboard, I focused on those notes until I could pull him out. Still tough, but this may have been the first time I was able to follow his part through the entire song. Thank you! #Grateful

Thanks for pointing out how important a role breathing can play in a cappella singing, especially when there is no established beat. I think Pentatonix tends to use some of the more sophisticated harmonic structures and movements I have heard when thinking about a cappella groups. Of course, we can thank Ben Bram for that (and Scott, I’m told, helps arrange as well). One thing I notice is that it seems when Pentatonix wants to accentuate their tight harmony they all take the vibrato out of their voices and it is pure harmonic bliss. This is reminiscent of Barbershop singing (and indeed, they really do sound very “barbershopish” in a few places in this song). Sometimes I think your emotional reactions are because you have such deep appreciation for how the arranger put the chordal structures and movements together. I have said I’d like to take a vacation and spend two weeks in Ben Bram’s brain to see just how he hears these things and applies them to his writing. Thanks for the reaction, I thoroughly enjoyed it :)
