🗳️ Poll: Which version of Close Encounters?

I read Spielberg prefers his 1998 Director's Cut but what do you guys prefer?

Comments

Exactly what I thought, had to google it 😂 Blade Runner is going to be a bloodbath when that happens

Tim Christensen

GUYS! It's actually really confusing to find the 1998 Director's Cut. This version is 2 hour 17 minutes correct? I found a copy 2h17m but it's "Director's Cut Remastered (1977) ?! Do we think this is the right one?

Jen M

Honestly, it's been so long since I've seen them that I can't remember which is which

Rick Trujillo

Will do! 😊

Doesn't really matter to me. Watch what YOU want to watch. But please make sure you let us know which one, so we can sync up the proper copy.

Director's Cut I heard is the best!

I liked the theatrical and really liked the Dir. Cut, but really disliked the Special Edition. At the time, Spielberg told the studio that he needed 6 more months to finish the movie but was told that it had to come out Christmas 77. They finally came to an agreement but with the Studio condition that a certain scene be added for the reissue in 78. To this day, Spielberg regrets adding this scene and removed it in the 1998 Dir. Cut. In broad strokes, the Dir. Cut. combines the best parts of both the Theatrical and Special Edition.

Ron

Always directors cut for any film.

I've never seen anything other than the theatrical release. Humm...
