[Poll] What mechanic do you want to see in the Halloween game?
Added 2019-10-29 06:52:32 +0000 UTCHere's a quick TL;DR:
I think the mechanic I've got going currently is a little too boring and involved, so I'm letting you guys choose what I do from here.
The options are:-
Option 1: Make a whole new game with already created assets.
Option 2: Continue with what I have currently.
Option 3: Continue with what I have currently but cut out the companion stuff and rework the game into an easier, slightly less involved "True or False" game.
So I had a completely wild epiphany earlier when I was writing the text for my mini-game in the Halloween animation, and it went something along the lines of this:
"This is actually pretty boring to write."
As the person who's meant to be making this damn game that's not a good thought to have.
I put the mechanic idea forward to a few people on my discord and they pretty much had an agreed "Yikes" at the idea.

The basic premise with it is that you're meant to pay attention to whatever Elizabeth is saying, then use the snippets of lines she answers as questions or as she says as idle text to answer the lines.
For example: You'll ask her "What did you write with" and she will answer "I used to write with my quill in hand", or she'll say "My imagination carried me through the night" and you'll use those to answer the questions.
Sounds all well and good in theory, but with the later stages the information becomes just that little bit more convoluted, and it's just... well... not fun. I mean, I find it fun but it's tedious and that shouldn't be the case at all.
I took some new ideas, like a cross-word puzzle or a word-search, but I just... don't think I can get a stable mechanic programmed and working in time for the 31st, and I REALLY don't want to deliver the animation late.
I do have an idea though. I've got the basis of a "bullet hell-ish" game programmed, and I can still salvage the project in time if I go for it, but it's really what you guys are up for.
SO - Here are your options:
Option 01 - Make pretty much a brand new game and use the already created assets to whip up something new.
I would be making a whole new game with expansion where you follow Elizabeth hopping into books to find out how she dies.
This is based off of a comic idea I had where she can't remember anything 24 hours before she dies so, as a ghost, she searches and finds the reason.
As she goes through the books and stuff she'll become more and more pregnant. While I might have to strip the story to make the deadline, the core gameplay loop will still remain.
Option 02 - Continue with what I have because the mini-game I had in mind originally is actually a pretty neat idea
This is on the assumption that the idea I had isn't actually that bad and I'm just over-reacting.
This is the quickest option because everything's actually nearly done, believe it or not.
Option 03 - Continue with the original idea and just tweak the mechanic to make it more fun
With this option I'll just remove the companion aspect and have books you can click on to open. In these books you'll find information about Elizabeth and other OCs, and you'll either be given a "truth" or "lie" button to call out Elizabeth's wrong statements, or the book will have a "true or false" mini-game in it where you can answer either true or false with very little punishment.
While this is slightly easier, you'll only get 3 lives before Beth decreases in size and reverts to what she was before so there will be that risk. That's just to prevent quick spamming.
So that's it.
At the end of the day I want to do what you guys will find the most fun.
