TT-2: Data General Dasher and microNOVA Serial Adapter Cables

Hello!

This is another simple little second channel video on making some cables for the Data General computer and terminal to make it possible to interface it with other devices. They use a very strange cable connector that nothing else does, so I make some custom cables to use normal DE-9 devices with them.

This was another video in a style more akin to my older videos. I actually filmed this video before that last second channel video but was holding it back since it kinda spoiled the computer itself working finally. I tried filming the next 2nd channel video today about that terminal tester I showed in the first video with Usagi Electric, but it's data transmit line didn't work for me and there is zero documentation for it. So it's going to take some deeper digging to figure it out.

I am not 100% sure, but I think there was a mid-lifecycle refresh of the original Dasher. When it first released the models were called "6052 and 6053". But I've noticed that after the D200 was released you start seeing references to "D1" and "D2". They keyboard for those models also say "D1" or "D2" on them and my 6053 just says "Data General". So it's possible that the D2 is just slightly different from the original 6053.

Very cool!! I noticed the face plate on your D2 terminal is different than the one I have here. Yours has sharper edges around the screen opening and its outer face. My are softer and more round. I wonder which one is the earlier model? Or maybe I have a D3?
