Video Rendering Server Rebuild (Now With Game Streaming!)

Hello!

There were a lot of requests to make a video out of upgrading my server with the new motherboard I was sent. Since I wanted to get that done sooner than later, here we are!

If you missed the recent mail video, I was sent a new motherboard for my server that would give me much more flexibility with and possibly some performance improvements. It's also been a few years since I've done a video about my server setup. So I figured I could go over some changes I've made to it while also comparing the performance before and after the upgrade. I also thought this might be a fun time to go over a new use case for my server as well where I can stream any of the PC games I have from my server!

I run a small datacenter at home semi-professionally (VPS hosting side hustle). One of the best choices I made for my setup was to give up on the idea of keeping my servers and my drives in the same chassis. Instead, I bought 2 of these (https://www.ebay.com/itm/194192688167) and one of these (https://www.ebay.com/itm/202032340974). Now I have all the drive bays I need, and if I ever need even more, I can just buy N more of the above. On the server side, I have an LSI SAS9201-16e. That supports 4 enclosures directly and many more by daisy chaining.

I am always interested in Shelby's modern desk setups, server builds etc. I often get very inspired at seeing how other people setup their rigs and not to be negative but 99% of such videos on YouTube are just a flexispot sponsored shoot of the latest and greatest system with no wires showing lol... or another non production demo NAS with the same drives in it as the last video... That Shelby actually uses this system is what makes the video so great. As soon as he said he had his working footage on a raid 0 volume I was like... "finally someone whose not afraid of raid 0" lol... In the days before low priced nvme that's just one of the ways you might configure fast storage... but everyone gets so heated when you bring it up lol like its the end of the world if a disk fails
