Phonodroid trailer behind the scenes + 4k renders

Its fascinating how much stiffer the movement looks without the camera rotating around it. The animation was made with that limited, constantly moving view in mind.
The whole thing was done in blender (aside from the music credits, which i added in post),
Even the VHS effect was done using blenders compositing nodes! After that I just needed to add a slight wobbling to it in Vegas to add the final touch.
I did consider recording the trailer to an actual VHS tape for full authenticity, but I was running out of time to do that. I may consider that again for the public release/world release trailer. Either way, I was very happy with the effect i got out of this!
The lighting comes from 9 disc area lights above with a big slightly blue-ish area light that follows the camera from the back to give the model its nice rim lighting.
The model used in this render is actually a bit outdated compared to the one released, mostly visible in the hands;;
All the animation was done manually by hand, which I do not want to repeat :P I'll make an IK rig for them eventually to make that stuff easier.

The first thing i did was the record lighting up, I knew from the start thats what i wanted. The rest just kind of happened after that ghfgfk
Also a version very close to the final with a blue background before I decided brown fit the mood better.
Finally, as a short fun note, that transition into the VRChat footage was done by creating a greenscreen that flies behind the logo as its zooming in. I could simply chroma key that out to show the footage behind it!
