How have things been going?
Added 2020-11-02 18:29:42 +0000 UTCIts been a while since I‘ve done one of these long form writings about how things are going. So how have they been going? Well, it probably comes as little surprise that this year has had a bad effect on me like everyone else. All my original plans have kinda been put on indefinite hiatus, and I’ve of course been stressed and frustrated constantly about how things are handled in my country of residence and across the world. This year has sucked without a doubt.
It is not all bad though! I’ve had triumphs this year too and I do try to remind myself that, while things out of my control are falling apart, I can still accomplish things and I have grown a lot as an artist and a person. from combatting self doubt and anxiety to be able to do commissions regularly to help fund what i do, to attempting at turning a lifelong dream into a reality and making a video game that’s actually playable. Woah!
On another note, I’ve been looking forward to christmas for a while. This is the first year in a while i think that Ive been more excited about christmas than halloween. (Probably largely due to it being past a certain election day coming up). I really want to be able to pick up the pace then and deliver on everything I’ve wanted to do. I’ll keep trying the best I can;
Here are some things I‘m aiming to do sometime in the future:
- Revamp my Patreon page. It’s a little old and dusty here, i know;; I‘ve struggled coming up with tiers that I can actually deliver on and i’m super grateful for the patrons that support me through all of it. I have some ideas though for things to make it a little more shiny and interesting!
- Game! Game stuff! I’m working to get it to a state that I can show what it is without promising stuff that isn’t there yet. It may be a while off, but I love making fun weird ideas for it and I’m excited about what it might one day become;;
- More drawings! Obviously, of course, but between hand injuries and burnouts that can often be easier said than done. I’ve figured out some things to help though, like a timer to split work time into 15-30 minute increments so i can take frequent breaks so my hand doesn’t prevent me from being able to work on stuff. And warmups! I really need to get in the habit of doing more warmups. It’s a win-win, more art for people to see and it really helps me get started on stuff if im having trouble. I’ve struggled with the concept of just drawing without a prior plan as of recent, and hopefully warmups can help me get better at that again.
Thank you all for reading this! I really need to do more of these kinds of posts. Time just gets away from me and the idea of sitting down and writing my thoughts and feelings regularly doesn’t exactly spark interest compared to other things I could be doing.. But I’ll aim to do these every 1-2 months whenever im feeling up to it. For everything else, I’ll keep everything updated on both @smorbee and @smorbaa on twitter as usual!
And for those wondering about @smorboo, I haven’t done much on there in a while because a lot of my horror motivation and work in that style has been funneled into the game I’m making. Baffy will be back when they are ready.
