New Electronics Workbench and Gear Tour

Getting this thing installed and setup was an unexpected detour from my projects but a very welcome one! I now have a proper workbench for designing and repairing things! I mention it about 30 times in the video but I am so excited to finally have a solution for my work area like this. It completely changes how I get to approach projects now.

I didn't really cover it in the video, but the only downside and the reason I didn't build something like this myself is that it reduces the overhead clearance for things quite a lot. So I'm probably going to have to tear down things somewhere else and then bring the components here. Hopefully that works out well for how I usually work but I'm excited to find out!

I also took the opportunity to go through everything I use at my workbench. I get questions about that sometimes and now I'll be able to point to this video as an answer to almost all of them. This ended up being a significant part of the video, but I give a lot of info and opinions. Hopefully it's of interest. I didn't want to write a script and it kind of went on and on so it's not a short one.

I'm probably going to release this later today. I need some time to put a bit of work into tracking down all the old videos I mention and linking the things I recommended. I also want to manually edit the subtitles because I learned that ~13% of people watch the videos with those and that is a lot so I'm trying to make it a priority now.

The cheap digital calipers have horrifically high quiescent current draw. The one I had would drain the battery within days if I forgot to take it out between uses. I finally got tired of that issue and bought these instead. https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B001AQEZ2W/ Still on the original coin cell 3 years later. It also does inch fractions, which is very handy sometimes. A surprisingly good secondary/backup/sacrificial DMM is the Aneng AN870. Its dirt cheap and the continuity test is very fast. According to the tests done on the EEVBlog forum, it had pretty good accuracy. The Inland filament is pretty good considering how crazy cheap it is. Why is changing filament on that printer a pain? To save space on my bench, I wall mounted my filament (and there was even windows in the way). Used some sealed bins from Target to keep them clean and dry, but mostly clean. https://i.imgur.com/7BmncY4.jpg I have the Prusa MK3s and got the MMU2 upgrade mostly so I can have several filaments in standby and pick from the slicer with no human intervention needed at the printer. A dude is working on a universal filament change unit, the project looks really promising. When I have some more free space and time, I might add one to one of my other printers. https://sites.google.com/view/the-smuff/

Eight hours?! Good grief. It honestly wasn’t bad but it was noticeable since your videos are usually impeccable, I just figured I’d mention it.
