Patron Only Video - Dauphin DTR-1 Backup

This video really didn't go how I planned it to. I wanted it to be a demonstration of interlnk and mTCP but it I wasn't able to do that in the end.

I'm not happy with this result but decided to push through this one to the end since I filmed pretty much everything. So this can be an example of a video that didn't pass the muster. I've had quite a few projects turn out like this and I usually just delete the footage and move on to something else.

I don't think I'm going to make this one public. So it's going to be just a supporter only video most likely.

I think laplink may be "abandonware" now and I did find it on WinWorld. The real set back for it is getting the cable. I know I could make my own or buy one, it's just that when I have other options available on hand I'd be less likely to try laplink. So hate to be that guy, but I'd probably only be interested in it if it were a complete setup with cable. It's no big deal if it isn't, I have other ways to transfer data. I do appreciate the offer either way.

I have a plan for that card but it's taking a while to get to and I'm now starting to think it may distract or confuse people from what it really is. So I may just do something "normal" with it some time. But I have a 5161 PC Expansion chassis waiting to be picked up and I thought it would be fun to put the Trackstar in that with a real Apple II drive mounted in it and it's own monitor on top. Then I could switch between what would look like two complete systems with the one keyboard. But I think that may all be too unfamiliar to the average viewer. Maybe I could do that after I cover all the parts on their own. I haven't had much of a chance to use Win 3.11 yet. That is really good to know though. It would be kind of funny to network the Dauphin with a modern machine like that. I didn't think Win3.11 would support SMB, that would be a lot easier than all the hassle I was going to go through.

As per YouTube comment, let me know if you want my copy of laplink.

Hey, neat to see the Trackstar card I gave you on the shelf in that vid :) By the way, just like the Wizard of Oz and the ruby slippers, you had the way home all the time. Windows for Workgroups 3.11 has built-in networking using what we called at the time "32-bit drivers" meaning there were direct Windows drivers for the NIC without depending on a DOS NDIS stack. The default protocol was Microsoft NetBEUI (it also supported TCP/IP but may require floppy media to add that if the original owner never installed TCP). The NetBEUI protocol was supported up through Windows XP, and 32-bit Windows Vista. So all you have to do is put another NetBEUI capable machine on the same subnet, create an SMB share, NET USE on the Dauphin and you are good to go (first installing NetBEUI as a protocol on 95/98/XP/Vista of course). Heck, if you installed TCP/IP on the Dauphin and enabled SMBv1 on Windows 10 that may actually work too. Name resolution could be weird so you'd probably have to use \\IP-address\share instead of the friendly name. To install TCP/IP, use the WFW 3.11 networking GUI and it will ask for a source for the files, just dump a flat copy of WFW 3.11 floppies onto a Zip disk.
