Channel name:
I would really like feedback on the idea of changing the channel name to "Tech Tangents". I know the first reaction is that change is bad, but please consider the difficultly I have with in person interactions when it comes to the current name. (My post office usually has a good laugh when it comes to trying to pronounce the name on packages). I know a potential solution to in person communication is to get business cards. But that only solves part of the problem. "Word of mouth" type references (watch any of the other first septandy videos for an example) end up mispronouncing it which makes it seem like a joke.

I really wanted to avoid the words "tech" and "retro" for a new name but I have been trying to come up with names for over a year now and this is the best I've been able to think of by a long shot. I think that "Tech Tangents" and "Technology Connections" are different enough on paper, but there is a similar feel now that you mention it. I don't know how to reconcile this at the moment. Trying to come up with a meaningful unique name on Youtube has been almost impossible because there are so many channels out there already. I've been essentially compiling lists of related words I can and can't/wont use. Words that are out for various reasons would be "8 bit, technology, computer(s)/PC(s), retro, game(s), classic, vintage, digital, electronic(s), nostalgia". I haven't been able to think of many other words that are meaningful to what I typically cover than "tech" & "system". I thought of tech as being so common as to have lost significance to any one channel "Linus Tech Tips, Level 1 Techs, Techmoan". I've also been mostly going with the idea of a meaningful word with a "flavor word". If you don't consider the word "the" or proper names in channel names a lot of them follow that formula. Digital "basement", "lazy" game reviews, tech "tips", 8-bit "guy", technology "connections", gamers "nexus". It's definitely possible to have a good name that doesn't follow this formula, "Applied Science" is a great example. But that's the exception, not the rule. I haven't been able to think of a good flavor word to go with "system" so I've been focusing more on "tech". Without considering other names, I like "Tech Tangents" enough that I want to use that name. Personally, I think it is different enough from "Technology Connections". But I'm biased since I like "Tech Tangents", I'm tired of trying to come up with names, and I already bought techtangents.net. It could be "Tangential Tech" but I think "Tangential" is too strange and would be a bad idea. I don't think that the shortened "Tech Connections" is ever used officially, if it was I would consider my new name dead in the water. But I don't really watch his videos so I wouldn't know.

2019-10-07 16:09:33 +0000 UTCTech Tangents sounds too close to Tech Connections. I agree the name should probably change because it is difficult to tell others what the name is the channel is because almost nobody can pronounce or spell akbkuku without hearing/seeing it first.
