10Gb Ethernet Cooling Mod and Testing
Added 2019-05-16 00:14:38 +0000 UTCI had a bunch of delays on video projects (The DOS PC build has begun) but I was finally able to get the 10Gb network setup! Editing this video from the server worked like a dream! It's so nice to have my old workflow back and is going to make recording videos much easier now since I can offload the recording SSDs to the server for editing.

Yeah, they definitely aren't cheap. My plan is to outfit another computer I have running in the server rack with a couple of the 10Gb cards I have and run openswitch. That will give me a free solution.

2019-05-17 15:54:56 +0000 UTC10gbase-t switches are definitely even harder to find / more expensive than SFP+ (or even sometimes XFP) Switches, and even those are not exactly cheap. if you're just connecting two boxes you probably would spend less money just switching to 40g than buying 10gbase-t switches

2019-05-17 15:51:23 +0000 UTCI did not, I would have to run what would be a third cable between the server and my desktop then. My desktop gets it's internet over a 1Gb port that is connected to a switch near my server. I don't know if there is a way to connect the ports together without needing a switch on both ends. 10Gb ethernet switches are crazy expensive, And with the drive bottlenecks right now I don't see a lot of reason to do that.
