LP-120 Phono Bypass Mod

This video spiraled wildly out of control for complexity. I didn't expect it to be over 30m long. It was definitely in the top 10 for the longest time to edit. I'm still tempted to go back and hack out some of the less on topic stuff in the beginning.

But I wanted to be thorough and try to fully explain what was going on. This is somewhat of a test video for a format that is aimed at being more educational. But this was far from a fully scripted video. The important parts were scripted though to make sure I got it right.

I agree, there have not been nearly as many games post-mp3 where the soundtrack is just as good on it's own. I can think of a few notable examples from modern games, but many are references back to older styles, Undertale being a prime example of that and Minecraft somewhere in the middle. Some hark back to a completely different era, like the Blood Dragon soundtrack and stereotypical 80's action movies. Game soundtracks are often good because of nostalgia or similar such feelings the game invoked, either directly or indirectly, like having played a lot Super Mario Kart with friends after school in a simpler time of your life. There are some that transcend gaming. The score for 'The Moon' from Ducktales I think will get few arguments against it being in that category. Nintendo often does good soundtracks because the put effort in to them. Seems like many game publishers don't some much as view it as any other asset and one you can just buy pre-made to fit general themes.

It is a really good soundtrack! The record was thankfully extremely well mastered and pressed so it sounds super clean. Donkey Kong Country 2 also by Rare has one of the best game soundtracks in my opinion. It's by David Wise instead of Grant Kirkhope, but they have some similar sounds. Super Mario 64 also has some amazing music in it. I have the CD for that from the Nintendo magazine, I sought it out used long after it was released. I miss the restriction of having to sequence music for game consoles. Maybe I'm just biased, but I feel like after developers were able to use streaming audio there just wasn't as much effort put into the music for games(outside of Nintendo who consistently knocks it out of the park still).

Despite having never played Banjo-Kazooie, I knew the soundtrack back in the day because I got the CD album from the Nintendo points thing they had then using the rest of the points I had when they were retiring the program. It was a blind pick, but was a good choice.
