Patron Exclusive: Behind the Scenes and Some Thoughts on the Channel

This is just something I really felt like making today.

I want to re-word off camera what I mean about physical rewards for  patreon tiers. As someone with an engineering mindset I see resources  being sent and received in that transaction. But I see a one time resource being sent and an unlimited resource being received. So it's  more of a cost analysis thing. I still feel really weird about being on  Patreon, and I suspect I'm just not thinking about this the right way. It's probably meant to be viewed as a bonus rather than as a purchase.

I, like you, hope that quality and heart will get you where you want to go, but honestly you do need to let people know you are doing the Patreon thing. Personally, when I find someone producing quality retro computer content I check to see if I can find them in Patreon. I do this because I want creators to keep making good content. But I wouldn’t bank on that as a business plan. The first video I watched was your recap of the Mac Classic II. I recently bought a Mac SE/30 in need of recapping, and I’m looking for pro examples. I’ve been making my way through your library ever since. Keep up the good work!

I've never been a huge fan of the name in the credits tier. But maybe I should rethink that. If it works then it works and people would like it. So I should consider it. Editing requires a surprising amount of focus. I can't even listen to music while editing, let alone talk to people. So that wouldn't work out unfortunately.

I can think of two Patreon reward tiers that may fit your style: One would be a simple "name in the credits" tier. That would not only provide recognition to people for contributing to your channel but also subtly advertise your Patreon in the video itself. Another tier you could offer would be editing live streams. Think of it like "early early access" with a bit of audience interaction thrown in.
