Class Feature: Reference Casting
Added 2019-11-05 04:11:45 +0000 UTCWizards already haul around a bulky book (or books!) full of spells. Time to make proper use of it.
In movies, television shows, literature, and art, there are lots of examples of wizards, magicians, and witches directly referencing books of magic while casting.
This simple class feature addition just gives that ability to D&D wizards without adding real power. It takes time, restricts movement during that time, and requires components that some casters may not carry around with them (because an arcane focus is simple and doesn't change). Unlike ritual casting, this still requires the use of spell slots for 1st-level and higher spells.
I think it's perfect for those spell-collector wizards out there, and it is a great reason to record niche-use spells and to develop new cantrips.
