in GTA IV driving one of Roman’s cabs isn’t “stealing” right?

Jeez, I might actually enjoy a GTA game if I forced myself to go through it like NOT a maniac...

I generally assume people don't actually read them so that's good to hear.

100%. Taking taxis is way more fun anyway.

Not stealing cars is a fun challenge, but what isn't a fun challenge in GTA IV is driving the cars just in general. It just felt bad. There were a lot of things I liked about IV but having to drive cars that feel like you're driving a boat made sure that I never bothered getting too far into the game before saying fuck it and moving along to something else.

It’s kind of a missed opportunity. Other games like RPG’s have “pacifist” runs that reward players for outthinking the need for lethality by traps or non lethal takedowns. As GTA has never actually rewarded lawful behavior (besides not gaining negative reinforcement like criminal stats), the player quickly loses interest in trying to follow the normal rules of conduct. It would have been cool, if somehow the game saw you trying to be law abiding and then certain NPCs would appear who would enlist you to stop these gangs terrorizing the neighborhood. It could be like a redemption arc and segway into a vigilante run that could have been intriguing. It seems games only have two mode: complete criminal or pretty cringe law enforcement simulator. I guess there are games like “The Punisher” or “Condemned” but those you don’t actually help the neighborhood in an authentic way and are just settling personal scores.

One time my dad asked for the controller while I was playing GTA IV and I was like...okay sure...
And he proceeded to obey traffic laws...walk the parks...just kinda milled about looking around. He looks at me and goes "Huh, this is quite fun" and I was so very confused why he enjoyed just being normal in a video game where you can cause chaos lol
