You Matter!

We attended the memorial for our friend, John, yesterday, and I want to to stress something.

You matter!

John was concerned about his legacy, he had no children, and as far as he was concerned, had done nothing of importance. He left this world believing that, but he was wrong. In that room I saw his family, extended family, friends, neighbors, and co-workers, and they all had stories to tell about him, and were all missing him dearly.

I know how hard it is to deal with depression, I've been doing it for a long, long time, and I know how easy it is to deceive oneself into thinking that you don't matter, but that's just in your head. It can be hard to fight it, but the fight is worth it. While sitting there yesterday, I wished so much that John could see the people there that had come to pay their respects, and maybe he could. I don't know if there is an afterlife or other planes of existences we don't know about yer, but I hope so, for all those that I've lost, I'd love a chance to see them again.

You matter!

You may or may not have children, you may or may not have left a noticeable impact on the world, but that's not what's important. We are all in this together and we touch one another's lives in ways we cannot always see.

If you're feeling that you aren't important, reach out. Friends, family, hell, I'm usually at my desk, so you can talk to me. Remember, you are important, and whether you know it or not, people will miss you.

Okay, that's enough of me being serious, I've got boobs to draw,

Love,

B!

At my father's 'Celebration of Life' earlier this year, I quoted Terry Pratchett (my father got me reading SF and fantasy): "No one is finally dead until the ripples they cause in the world die away, until the clock wound up winds down, until the wine she made has finished its ferment, until the crop they planted is harvested. The span of someone’s life is only the core of their actual existence."

I love making people laugh, but I also want to make sure people know they are cared for.
