Behringer D: $300 or so
Sonuus G2M: $80, as little as $50 for an old one
Rockman or whatever distortion box: $60 to $100
Getting Behringer to retain the ability to set pitch bend range, so you can use older G2Ms to do this: priceless :)
Back when I was growing up, this was unthinkable. Anybody who's interested in guitar synthesizer tech should look into this combination of budget gear… but if you get current Behringer Ds AND you have an older Sonuus G2M (or even if you don't: I think it'll have better pitch resolution if set to two semitones pitch bend, there's only so much data being sent) you currently need to apply the 1.0.3 firmware to the D, which is a downgrade. Only then can the D be told to use 2 semitones pitch bend. It'll remember the setting, but it will NOT necessarily 'lock in' that setting upon being given firmware 1.0.5: they say it will, but people are reporting that it didn't.
You get what you pay for, so be warned that this setup might not always apply. If the Behringer D gets altered so it can't take the 1.0.3 firmware and you've got an older G2M, you might be out of luck.
