Orb: On the Movements of the Earth 1x08 "We Must Become Icarus" - reaction & review

Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 8 of Orb!! You know what? Count Piast is kind of a real one! I can see that underneath it all, he really does care about finding the truth. And I think if he can put aside his pride from knowing that the theory he worked so hard to prove might not be true, he's definitely gonna help our crew find the truth by letting them use his resources!! Can't wait to see what happens next! Enjoy! ~ MH

I know, I like this group!!! YES same, like after he's lived a good long life, he should pass it on :) Because yeah, that's how discovery works! LOL yeah like can you imagine how shady this must seem to her haha. Piast is a real one, and I hope Jolenta finally gets some credit too! That's the thing, like from a faith-based perspective one could even say we were given that curiosity for a reason, yet the whole trying to squash the curiosity thing from the church is just so unnatural!

I was thinking this was like Jojo after Gras but I hope this becomes THE group. I hope Badeni passes it on (in old age) because come on— it’s the universe. They have discovered so much and are still finding new things about it today. Jolenta definitely was smart. I’m privy to Ozcy and Bedani. We know they’re cool but if ai was her I wouldn’t trust them. 😅 And I think she’s smart by bringing them to Piast who seems really cool. Bedani already knows it’s her but hopefully through whatever is going to happen, her knowledge becomes more valued rather than her anything else. We’re seeing so many people curious and individually they are naturally curious but the one thing stopping them is ironically something I think they hold dear as well. But just goes to show you, it’s natural to be curious. 🧐

That's a good point, there's a lot going on here past the surface. That's the thing, I feel like different people/groups/time periods will take what they wanna see/hear from certain passages. Piast knew alright, and I gotta say, he's decent for seeing past stuff like that during this time period! There's for sure advantages and disadvantages to taking on Jolenta when you think of who her dad is lol. Figuring out the truth sounds so simple yet it's so complicated when you're fighting an uphill battle like this.

What we’re focusing on here is the method of “reading between the lines.” Just as I made a big point last episode that the times were not conducive to Jolenta’s desire to participate and learn, it does not however, mean that everyone in the time period had the naïveté that permeated the general population. Badeni quickly realized by both her mannerisms and her reactions that she was in fact the one answering his question. On the flip side, she was able to figure out that what Badeni was doing is related to heliocentrism without him actually saying it, due to the line of questioning he brought up. Probably the biggest stumbling block in man’s interpretation of the scriptures is that everyone is going to read it and react to certain passages differently: it’s extremely difficult for people to take something at face value without interjecting our own thoughts and opinions into the conversation, it’s just how we’re wired. This is how different theories and ideals get developed. Speaking of theories, Piast is no dummy - he knows what’s going on with Jolenta, but also what the wall of opposition she’s fighting against is. He’s old enough at this point that there’s not really a reason to care about silly stuff like where an interesting idea came from. The flashback puts more insight into perhaps why he’s being so lenient with her, and trying to encourage her to seek out new ideas. As it stands, she is on the verge of a radical change in thinking, and Badeni sees her as both a useful tool and a possible scapegoat. Of course she also brings ANOTHER element into this that might be one this crew might want to steer clear of as well… so double-edged sword, perhaps? That can wait, first you have to figure out… like man has been trying to do for ages… what is the actual truth and then go from there.
