Orb: On the Movements of the Earth 1x03 "I… Believe In Heliocentrism"- reaction & review

Hey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 3 of Orb!! I'm sorry WHAT?!?!?! What do you mean that's how they're ending this episode?!?! I'd say they can't do this...but I've been burned before just like this. (WOW really bad choice of words there!!) I can't believe this is where Rafal's journey ends but dang, he really had an arc here. He truly found something to stand up for and not just fake his way through life over. And he had Novak shook, and that's not an easy thing to do!!! Can't wait to see what happens next! Enjoy! ~ MH

Hey Leonie! I'm excited to get deeper into the plot of the series! OMG the first thing I thought of was Jonathan!!! Only we only got 3 eps with Rafal!! I agree that the author did a good job of building his character so that we cared about him in that time. I think you're right about Potocki, he gave up on the theory to protect himself and Rafal, and probably really thought he was helping by turning him in, since he expected Rafal to recant. Novak is so scary and totally knows how to intimidate people! I LOVE that his VA is such a big fan! I know, following Rafal's train of thought, it really feels like he's going to back down - what a twist when he doesn't! I'm glad he at least didn't feel the burning but still :( I'm so glad you enjoyed my reaction to it! Yeah like, I didn't think he'd get taken out that soon, especially since he is a kid like you said. No one is safe for sure! That's so true about the process of science, it's always a process that can span years or even centuries. I'm so happy you enjoyed it!!!

It's a good lesson! OMG I know, like this is a whole new level of brutal! Yeah that was quite a way to end it right?! Wasn't it crazy to see Novak shook? Rafal really got to him! This one really leaves you wanting to know more right!!!

“A wrong answer is not a meaningless one.” My professor emphasize that a lot. Guesses and many assumptions brought forth new information. Wow to this show. Jujutsu Kaisen showed no mercy but at least the main protagonist survived. Well came back to life after episode three. I know there were many burning. Fear was real. But I always wonder if the people felt something wrong about burnings underneath the pressuring fear of heresy. Wild stuff! I wonder how this person at the end connects to Rafal. Or if he just somehow stumbled upon this somehow. Man Novak was finally shook. Only episode three and I’m surprised he displayed such shock because I thought it’d be a while before we saw that. Rafal got him shook. Great episode. I mean it was harsh but I’m interested to see what comes next.

Hello Melissa, I’ve really been looking forward to your reaction to Episode 3 of Orb. I already told you that while the first two episodes are a good introduction to the story, they don’t quite convey the core essence of Orb that runs throughout the entire anime. But I think after Episode 3, you’ll start to see what kind of style this anime really has. I imagine it’ll also remind you a lot of JoJo, because in Orb, no one is safe from death. If you thought Jonathan had a short lifespan with just nine episodes, Orb proved you wrong—Rafal, unfortunately, only had three episodes of screen time. But personally, I think the author did a great job making him likeable and unique, letting us see all sides of his character. That’s why it’s such a shock that he was taken from us so early on. Before I dive deeper into the shocking moment of this episode, I want to highlight a few other scenes. I found it really interesting to see that Rafal’s adoptive father, Potocki, had also studied heliocentrism and was genuinely interested in astronomy. But he gave it up, both to protect himself and Rafal. I don’t think he was a bad father—he simply wanted to protect Rafal. If he hadn’t handed Rafal over to Novak so early on, they might have discovered more details about his search for the truth behind heliocentrism, and he might have had to endure even worse torture. I also think Potocki was pretty confident that Rafal would submit to the court and go on to study theology, since he had always followed the societal current and Potocki had never seen him act otherwise. Rafal was probably really good at hiding his inner thoughts from his adoptive father, which is why Potocki truly believed there was no danger. also thought Novak’s appearance in this episode was incredibly powerful. You could really feel how terrifying his presence alone is. With just a few words, he’s able to summon people’s deepest fears. He knows exactly what to ask to get the answers he needs. Even something as simple as him asking for a glass of water sends chills down your spine. The voice actor truly pours his passion into the role. Knowing that he’s a huge fan of the manga and specifically wanted to voice Novak makes it even cooler—and you can hear that passion in every line. He brings the character to life so well. Now, coming to what made this episode both shocking and emotional: Rafal’s decision to reject theology and embrace heliocentrism was a brilliant twist. When you read his thoughts, you assume he’s going to continue doing what he’s always done—suppress his true feelings and follow what society expects of him. But I think, thanks to Hubert, he was introduced to a new worldview that deeply fascinated him. And he didn’t want to let go of that idea. It was such a powerful moment, especially when you realize he’s only twelve years old, and choosing such a painful fate—being burned alive—is unimaginably intense. The fact that he went through with it is truly remarkable. Sure, he ended his suffering early with poison, but the entire confrontation with Novak was masterfully written. I really enjoyed your reaction to that scene—it was so entertaining! I think everyone had a similar reaction. I was absolutely stunned when I saw it, because I didn’t expect our main protagonist to leave us so soon. Especially with a child as the main character, you naturally assume they’re safe, that nothing serious will happen to them. But I think that’s exactly what sets Orb apart from other anime—no one is truly safe from torture or death. More so, the real protagonist here isn’t a person but rather the curiosity and inspiration of individuals seeking to shape and transform the world. It’s even more remarkable because society doesn’t change overnight. Science isn’t created by just one man; it’s a legacy, a construct built by many men and women throughout the centuries. It is sustained and continues to grow on the shoulders of our predecessors, all for one purpose, to reveal the truth. The collective knowledge is passed down through the efforts, study, imagination, and most of all, the curiosity of those who came before us. Great reaction als always!!!
