Orb: On the Movements of the Earth 1x02 " And Now? I'm Going To Move The Earth" - reaction & review
Added 2025-04-11 13:01:20 +0000 UTCHey everyone! Here it is - my reaction to episode 2 of Orb!! Oh dang guys! I had a feeling Hubert might not make it, but sacrificing himself for Rafal was a lot. And it totally sets up Rafal to take up his mantle! I give Rafal credit for wanting to live a bit more honestly as himself, but he's gotta keep a lid on this whole research thing! Nowak is such a CRAZY character by the way! Like for real, who starts proud papa-ing about their kid during a torture session?! Lol! Can't wait to see what happens next! Enjoy! ~ MH

I know right?! He was a cool character, I would've liked to get to know him better. OMG I knoooowww like it was one thing to watch Nanami pull that guy's hair lol, that was downright fun :P But THIS, this is too much!! I know exactly what you mean, like there's definitely more to him. And I'm scared to find out more!!!

2025-04-17 20:10:49 +0000 UTCThank you for the pronunciation notes! I love how Hubert doesn’t try to convince Rafal outright, just kind of plants the idea and lets it grow. And the necklace being a map?? That’s such a cool detail, especially with the constellation tie-in. The letter being written before Hubert even met Rafal adds such a thoughtful, almost fated layer to everything. Seeing more of Rafal’s backstory makes his choices make so much more sense—he’s stuck between following the rules and following what actually sparks his interest. And the fact that Hubert tried to shield him from backlash? That was such a kind move, even if it’s subtle. Nowak, on the other hand... what a character. The whole “just doing my job” attitude is super eerie, but also kind of fascinating in a messed-up way. And Potocki owning all those astronomy books while shutting Rafal down? Very suspicious. 😏 Also, I know I say this every week, but I am so not ready for what’s coming next!

2025-04-17 20:05:39 +0000 UTCThat’s unfortunate what happened with Hubert. The beginning of this episode I had a feeling we’d eventually lose him eventually (and soon) but I didn’t this soon. I felt for him and I barely got to know him. RIP Man that Novak guy is interesting. And it hurts me personally that that’s Nanami. That’s just cruel cuz I love that character. When he says this at 16:15 I assumed it was like a hangman situation. Where someone has to do the cruel job of putting people down (cause someone has to do it) and then return home to his family like a normal day at the office. But after the father-son scene and finding out he’s a mercenary there’s an extra layer there. I do and don’t want to know more about this guy. 😬

2025-04-16 11:24:41 +0000 UTCListens to wrap-up: “you might think you know where this is eventually going, but you really have no idea.” 😁 A couple of pronunciations - he’s gone now, but Hubert seems to be a more French pronunciation (the T is silent), so it sounds like who-bear. Nowak is sounding like No-vak, German names seem to incorporate a V sound for a W often, and that appears to be what’s going on here. (We don’t actually have a confirmation on the country here, but by the style it seems very European). It was referred to as just the Kingdom of P, so take it for what you will. (However, Poland is next door to Germany sooo….) “Aren’t you going to finish something?” “I just did.” The way Hubert eventually piques Rafal’s interest isn’t by threatening him - that tactic was just a front to get him to listen in the first place. No, he presents the theory, and his line of thinking but doesn’t take a stance. Now he’s got the kid thinking about the possibility. The necklace he gave Rafal turned out to be a map to the stone chest. He clued the boy in by commenting on the mountains at the viewpoint and how they matched a certain constellation - the same one that was painted on the necklace. The letter inside the chest was apparently written before Hubert met Rafal, he didn’t know who was going to find it. The letter is phrased in such a way as to not cast suspicion on another person, and talks about reason vs intuition. Just as it makes sense to Rafal to burn the materials, his intuition is screaming at him to look closer at this. We see more of the reason Rafal has a big facade up, as he’s threatened by his own surrogate father to retract his choice of study, or he won’t be allowed to attend university at all. This is archaic in the line of modern day thinking but in this day, you didn’t question officials or your parents. Once they made a decision, that’s the end of the discussion - something Rafal has figured out early. But his curiosity has turned him into one of those “fools” he was talking about, as opposed to someone who can live comfortably. Hubert was also a nice enough guy to make sure that Rafal didn’t take any blame for looking into his theory - he didn’t fear his fate, because he recognizes that someone else is going to dig in his place. As far as Nowak is concerned, as we hear from the Church members, he’s a bit of a special case. The word for the job he’s doing is Inquisitor. (Yeah, you’ve heard it during Star Wars - but this is probably the inspiration for the idea). His job is to find heretics. (Also, if you read my last comment you know you were right - it’s Nanami). But he’s not a man of the cloth, he’s just for hire by them. Think about it kind of like this - this is just a job to him, he’s not really too emotionally attached. “So who do I have to torture today?” is kind of the attitude he takes, as quite often we’ve seen him mentioning things like he’d like to go home early today. Basically he gets results, but it’s not like he’s taking a lot of pleasure in it. “Hurry up and burn so I can go home.” He has kind of a disconnect as you can see, because when the kid comes home he recognizes him, but doesn’t even apologize. “So this was your family.” - not even a that’s too bad. The philosophy is kind of “it is what it is.” I think any parent can empathize with not wanting their kid’s world turned upside down if they can help it. This is just an extreme case, but he looks at what he does the same way somebody today looks at an office job. If Potocki is so concerned about Rafal studying astronomy, and so against it, why does he have so many books on it in the house? That’s a question to think about. Also, you’re not ready for next week. But isn’t that usually the case? :P
