Haikyu!! 1x24 "Lonely King No More" - reaction & review

This one was SO hard to watch....it didn't come down to more talent, more skill, or anything like that....it was literally just a good read of a move from Oikawa that decided this in a split second! As heartbreaking as it is to think that they lost because it was so obvious that Kageyama had changed, in the long run, that's really a great thing!! Seeing the boys crying and eating at the end broke me! And the line about the muscles....that's so profound :') They're gonna come back better than ever, I have no doubt!!! Enjoy! ~ MH

Ahhhh ok, I was hung up on that third match rule, thanks! Probably a good call not to have a big discussion after a loss! It's so sad to watch them walk off the court, it all ended so fast! Only one team indeed! I was thinking about the third years after, it's so sad. That's the way it goes I guess! WOW in a way though, I'd hate to be Seijoh having to play right after such an exhausting match! One more to go!

2024-12-19 13:46:19 +0000 UTCI explained this at the start of the season regarding volleyball’s rules, but they didn’t have a match in which it applied until now: the rule is a) first team to 25 points wins, and b) you MUST win by at least two points. You asked how long they would continue to play - they could’ve kept going if they needed to until it was 100-98. There’s not a time limit. I didn’t remember to point this out last episode but the neighborhood association guys were in fact trying to start a cheer for Karasuno and then Ukai gave them the “what are you doing?” Stare. There’s not really a ton of analysis to do on the game, the teams fought tooth and nail - and Seijoh made one more play than Karasuno did. The commentary after the game about commenting on how good the match was… all that kind of talk is hollow to a competitor. When I was a team manager you didn’t really speak to the athletes after a loss - they weren’t in a good mood. The competition means too much so hearing “I’m proud of you,” “you did your best,” or “you were so close…” just rub salt in the wound, especially when it’s such a game of inches. The fact that they barely had time to reflect on what happened and were being shooed off the court shows just how cruel and quickly a season can end. As I mentioned earlier, only one team is happy. Everyone else how’s out whether you beat them or they beat you. The fact that they were crying while eating indicates how much the loss hurt. It stings even more for the third years, Daichi, Sugawara and Asahi because this was their last shot. And the sport goes on. The winners advance. The losers go home. That hurts. But it’s also sports. You get one shot every season, and no extra lives. Hopefully their competitive side won’t push out the fact that they got to play together as long as they did. By the way, Seijoh went on to play another match shortly after that one, that’s how the tournament works. Looks like they won, too., Not sure what’s coming in the finale, but quit hogging the karaage in the meantime. 👀
